Default Project ideas?

Hey,
Do any of you have any electronic project ideas?
I am building a lot of lasers but I want to build something easier just for fun and for cheap. Any ideas?

YO Gofilord,

You could look for projects related to your laser hobby, such as LPM's , or scanner drivers, or even laser controllers based on PIC micros. The LPM is probably the most simple and rewarding project I can think of, because there are many designs available on the web for these circuits.

Good luck, and please let us know what you decide to build...........

Out of the mouths of babes....

And how are you suggesting on calibrating the accuracy
of those "simple and rewarding" LPM projects...

Well I suppose that would depend on what type of circuit he found, and what he has available as far as known standards of measurement.

But he specifically asked for "easy, fun and cheap" ideas, so I wasn't thinking of a complex, feature-packed LPM like a Laserbee. I was more thinking along the lines of those circuits that are nothing more than a photodiode detector and a few passive components, and possibly an op-amp. These ultra simple builds normally use a DMM as a display.

I built one years ago, before I had a real LPM, and it was quite a bit of fun building and tinkering with it. As I recall, the thing was so simple that I didn't even need to buy any parts. I had everything I needed in my stash of salvaged components. The detector, I pulled out of an old barcode scanner.

Even if the OP can't calibrate the thing for absolute measurements, they are still fun to build and useful for relative measurements. Surely you can see the value in a little build like this. And don't worry...I can't see this sort of thing toppling the Laserbee Empire.

Hmmm I think I'll go on the IR thermometer LPM soon.
But I am kinda dissapointed that the accuracy is 15% only..
I don't wanna spend too much on a LPM because it's not really criticle for me in this hobby, I rather spend the money on safty goggles.
Talking about safty goggles, are the T-REX module from Lazerer.com good? they look high quality-ish.
