Hello,

Apologies for the novice questions.

I have a small device attached to an Arduino board that can trigger my camera to fire when the laser trip is broken. I've tested this using a cheap laser pen (Keychain Laser Pointer | Maplin) to start out with but noticed that the battery life isn't very long when the laser is on continuously.

I'd like to have something that can last 5-7 hours. I understand you can't just buy a laser diode, hook it up to some batteries and away you go but trying to find out a way of creating a mobile, long-lasting device has proved difficult. Can anyone refer me to a decent resource for this kind of thing?

Go to aixiz lasers. I bought some lab units that are 12v. And fan cooled. They can be plugged in with a simple wall adapter, or if portability is an issue a car battery can be directly wired to it and it will surely run for however long you like . The 180mw 638nm red 12v lab unit would be perfect.

Power your pointer with any of your junk phone chargers. Just cut off the plug, strip the leads, and solder in a ~33 ohm resistor in series to help limit the current.

I second the phone charger. Or one of those USB wall chargers. A car battery will put out 12V and some drill batteries go up to 19V. However now that I think about it, you could use a car battery with one of those 12V to USB / phone charger adapters to get the voltage down to a more manageable 5V. That would keep you from being tethered to a wall, but it wouldn't be terribly discreet either.

My aixiz lab lasers are 12v already and are fan cooled. They can also be adjusted from 5mw to 200mw. They have 405. 445. And 638 nm

55Wh... and it's not even rechargeable? You can get the same capacity in the same size with lithium for less than a tenth the cost. The only thing that would make this sell is that huge pile of buzz words.

"Fuel flexible solution that can run on a number of high energy fuels" That is only available from them, and at obscene cost, no doubt :tired:

Yep, splice an old phone charger (5v) and buy a 5 piece bag of red laser modules from fasttech. Then plug it into the wall and you are good to go!
