Basically the three main color ranges that are essentially missing from the handheld laser spectrum are the cyan/turquoise range (488nm-512nm... those), the lemon-yellow range, and the orange range. Personally, I would like to see the orange range come first, but seeing as most people would like to see Cyan be the next handheld, I am not in much luck... but heck, cyan/turquoise is pretty beast too :D

I too would love to see some solid state lasers around 610nm. Orange would be sweet!
I think more blue in my collection could start to get redundant, even if cyan is a neat color. Orange just seems so much more exotic!

Wow, this is a difficult question, almost like picking your favorite child. If I had to chose from the units that I own, my 473nm labby is simply eye candy!

So I take it that all the 488nm and other non-handheld-wavelength-lovers chose 473nm? I'm surprised 532nm is doing so well...

532nm would have to be my favorite simply because it is my favorite color. It's the color of grass, leaves, nature in general. I don't have any other colors (except cheapy red..) so i can't say for sure. Videos never really display lasers properly, so I can't really judge from videos what I like the best.

Now that I know so many people like blue that may have to be the color of my next laser...

I voted for 473nm, but 488nm is my favorite. I like the way it looks in my hand-held argon. ;-) I would also be partial to 445nm, when it is running at >3 watts. Then it will look even more blue due to particles reflecting white dust in the atmosphere.

473nm hands down!

Had you asked me this a week ago I'd have said 532nm, but now it's second in my book. Third I like 445nm, then 650nm, then 405nm, then 635nm.

Okay well in hindsight, obviously the idea of replacing the 808nm option with "Other/Please Specify" would have been a better idea, but then of course that option would have won by a longshot and it wouldn't have been much fun. An Alternate course would have been to group things together (e.g. "The Reds: 671nm, 660nm", "The Oranges: 635nm, 632nm, 612nm", "The Yellows: 593.5nm, 589nm", etc.) but that wouldn't have been all that fun either.

Maybe if there was a mod that would allow for more than ten options in a poll... but then again we wouldn't want to bother C0ld for something unimportant like that. He has enough work to do just sorting through all this senseless fighting (referring to certain other threads of course, not this one :p)

p.s. Props to whoever finds the hidden link :shhh:

You can't call it hand-held unless you can manage it without any tethers. Meaning head, psu, cooling, and power source.

Though I did use one of my dead 2214 heads as part of a halloween costume once. They look pretty bad ass when you attach a pair of pistol grips, a scope, and screw a bunch of other random electronic crap/tubing to the housing, and get rid of the front shutter/light board/housing, etc, and add led's to illuminate the fins. Run the blower hose and umbilical to a backpack and your all set. Instant scifi prop.

I'll try to find some pics of this thing from other people, I know I don't have any myself anymore (or anything else before 2005.. raid array ate itself)

Ok i'll quit being OT now. I do still want to see your 'hand held argon' though.

Well then as soon as you can show me a link to the purchase page of a 488nm Portable, I will immediately start a new poll thread with 488nm as one of the options ;)

oh, I didn't realize you didn't have any gas laser wavelengths up there, well still, its my favorite.
