Re: Photobucket just deleted;

Yep, that's the other way to do it, download the entire album. I did that also, just so I'd have all my pics incase those dipshits at P/B just up and went belly up without notice. Not that an outstanding company like them would ever consider doing something like that!

Re: Photobucket just deleted;

@ Acc, diachi, Bowtie and Alaskan; thanks for all your help/advice. At least I know it can be done. I was worried that there wasn't a way. Pretty sure next time I go in I'll be able to grab what I don't have somewhere else. Pain in the rump! But I do appericate all the support.

Alaskan; sorry they got you too, guess they weren't finished messing up people's lives. So sorry you had/have some beautiful pics.

Hey, Jeff. Whatever happened to jmillerdoc? I'm sorry I missed out on that group buy, but I was in on his traveling box of laser related items. He was a great member here and I just wondered if you knew why he stopped posting.

Yeah, they've gotten quite a few of us, I'm doing the same as you, trying to replace the latest posts first, and then attempting to do most of the rest.
I've got to believe you're correct, they won't be around too much longer; be sure and download all your photos soon, before they disappear and take your pics with them!

I suppose if we decided to pay their \$400 ransom, we could pay with these rather appropriate coins.

I'm not sure Paul, I was just thinking of him as I was re-doing the deleted photos of my Goldenstar labby that I purchased in his mini group buy.
I agree, he was a great member, hopefully he'll drop back in one of these days. I remember getting a free sample of some excellent solder from him, still have some left!

Hey, Jeff. I got that same solder from him too. He was great about sharing his successful buys with other members. I think he got the first NDG7475 diode when they came out. They were damn expensive back then too.

Excellent image/phot BowtieGuy! Awesome coinage! + rep when allowed.

Love the one with wings --- as I have many times said " I don't give a flying f--k" --- this I could give a "flying f__k "

I need to get some of those coins to hand out in situation warranting same.
I wonder if they are commercially available?

Re: Photobucket just deleted;

Seems there are, or were, soliciting \$30,000 and \$45,000 donations to a startup company and these were some of the promotional "gifts". I smell more than \$hit. It also smells like scam.

Re: Photobucket just deleted;

Well, there may be scams, i cannot judge each one of them, but the realilty is that offering a photo storage and sharing platform does have it's costs.

At the very least there are the cost for data storage and bandwidth for people viewing those photos.

If a platform is free to use by the one posting the pictures, those cost must be recovered in other avenues such as advertising. People get fed up by those adds becoming ever more annoying and resort to add blockers, removing the revenue.

Something like instagram survives, for the time being. They will probably not on the long term as people use add blocker plugins and such over time.

At a certain point people will just have to pay, either to make content available or to view it.

The upside is that costs are fairly limited: as of now hosting a gigabyte of photos online would cost you under \$1, making them available adfree for thousands of people to see a month. By the time you want to offer a terabyte of photos the price drops rapidly.

I guess we have to accept that hosting material does cost money, albeit is very small amounts in most cases.

Thanks for the heads up ixfd64, I don't use Chrome but I might have to make an account to see if this actually works. Would save a whole bunch of work if it does. Can't say thsnks enough!

Yes, a dollar a month does seem very reasonable. 400.00 a year, not so much.
