Iam in an deal to built a nice 2w+ 445 Blue laser.Iam not so much the kind of burning type of man..ok i will do it a lot of times but iam most a stronge & thick solid focusable beam exploring sky guy.So my question is...in DIY built 2.5w+ lazer...the lenses do the whole thick focusable beam job in the dark night??(i saw some videos and i loved some thick beams and said..ok thats the kind of beam i want.In this power i know that i will have all the burning benefits..but what about the beam?Thank you for every help you give me..

what do you mean thick beam; 1 inch, 1/2 inch, 1/4 inch, 1/8 inch, 1/16 inch etc....... If it is focusable then you can adjust the beam width to your liking, HOWEVER the wider the beam the less intense (bright) it will be since your spreading that estimated 2W power over a larger area (width). when focused to inifinity it will look like this

Nice tight, intense beam that is probably 1/16in wide? never actually measured the beam since its a multi-mode diode and the beam profile is square to begin with.

Lovely beams Livinloud! My DIY will have G2 lens..so does this affect the thickness of the beam??As iam in dealing for the device that i will built(i want to believe that i will be in good DIY modder hands for that device...:)).so.. when focused to inifinity i would like to enjoy myselfe seeing a thick beam..if i can adjust it it will be lovely that..thats cool..for about inches..me too i have never measured the beam..so as thickness as it can be without loosing the quality would be perfect..!I Hope iam not writing stupid things..its just that iam exciting for this built device to be born!

I Liked very mush your beams....!

what DIY are you following. from the sounds of it, especially since your using a G2 lens, then yes it will be focusable, thus allowing you to adjust the beam width. the picture above is focused to infinity so thats what you can expect from your laser. the G2 doesnt change the focusing at all, just the amount of light that passes through the lens.

I used 70mm diameter photographic lens as beam expander one day for trying distant burning .. the losses were horrible, so it did not really work. But the beam ! Trust me, you don't want light saber, when you can have laser baseball bat ..
