Nothing to get too excited about just an observation. While watching ski jumping I noticed a wide green line very near the max distance landing area. In live or taped broadcast the line appears continuous in slow motion replay it's obvious the line is scanning. This laser appears to be above because as the contestants land the beam passes down their backs.
Here's a vid. https://youtu.be/STs5st7EIjQ

Yup, I also noticed they're using a "Matrix - Bullet Time Effect" like camera rail on snow boarding half-pipe :p

So, it is likely a mirror that is doing the scanning. Probably a large DPSS 532nm laser. The beam looks like it has been expanded too.

Seems to me what Paul and ArcticDude mentioned. The laser might be even strobed at some defined frequency (not perceivable by human eye) to get exact data about "the flight". And maybe it is even using line generator optics with some lens expanding it (not scanning with mirror therefore). Interesting.

Is there any further reading about that?

Thanks my friend and sorry for me being lazy (or busy?). ;)

Edit: I skimmed these articles and that seems interesting, but just simple. I'm looking forward what will be laser technology use here. Thanks again.

Yes, and as you can see laser implementation is quite "old" technique: 2013. :p

Definitely. We discussed something similar with my friend and schoolmate even earlier - on elementary school when he was doing some project on safety system. I proposed to use that time popular red pointer for invisible line (long cover tubes around aperture and receiving sensor to reduce possibility of system to be detected by unautorised person). Great times.

We are still always having nice and long discussions. We even did one laserpainting published here last year. Unfortunately he moved to Canada for some time.
