Ok so you know those IR lasers they attach on guns for night combat and you can only see it with night vision so it gives the good guys the advantage, is their a way to see the IR without night vision. I thought it would be cool to attach an IR laser to my AR-15 but since I dont do any night combat (im just a civil), I dont see any use other than helping me aim and I dont feel like dishing out 10 grand for night vision systems is their like IR shades that you can wear just like normal glasses that would let me see the IR like the dot and/or the beam and then still not be hindering my performance.

I thought of making something like this

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/746423/infrared_goggle_hack_for_under_10/

but id rather have something a little more profesional looking and maybe not so big, something like this

http://www.defense-update.com/images_new/eyewear_c207.jpg

So yea it does not have to be tactical maybe just a little more practical and if their was nothing like that and I had to make a pair would those like the one in the first video be able to see the dot and/or the beam of the IR laser?

this would be much worse than standard goggles, it will block out visible light only allowing IR to pass - meaning yes you'd see the dot of the laser but it would offer no protection and actually dilate your pupils making a direct hit from the laser even more dangerous than not wearing the goggles

if you want protection and still be able to see the IR - you could make an electronic system with the theater style LCD glasses on DX and an electronic camera with the IR filter removed

Ok so I would see the dot but what about the beam? (it would be a powerfull IR laser anyway) Im not planing on actualy going into some combat with this and I know well the dangers of lasers im no newbie. I would plan on using this as a novelty tool and just use it for showing off shots with amazing accuracy when im shooting from the hip and people would be like "Whoaa!".

And if I did it I would probably use some old sunglasses and just fit the plastics over them and not use welders goggles. But if theirs such a name for this or a place that would sell something like this I would like to know that to. ;D

I have to agree with Mariomaster on this one - you are setting yourself up for an extremely dangerous situation by even considering something like this. It is a bad idea all the way around, sorry :(

PLus, when you cant see a damn thing through those glasses, you may hit something reflective and REALLY do yourself in.

Like everyone else said, this is a very bad idea. Now if you wanna go through the right way about this, you can do what mariomaster suggested.Or you can use an old camcorder viewfinder instead of expensive theater glasses.Search through kipkay's profile he has a tutorial on making something like that.

If you're a civilian, you have no need to be tactical, you have no access to nods, so why do you need an IR alser? As a civilian, you're gonna impress more people at the range with a bright ass green laser site anyway.

I just said why I would need an IR laser, I want to it to help my aim so I can make amazing shots at amazing distance all by shooting from the hip rambo style. If I just use a red laser or a green everybody will know, I just want to have an IR laser put goggles on and say its just sun glasses and then everybody wil be like wow you got really got aim.

BTW civils can get night vision systems...

Well even if their cheep im not going to be shooting at night, its going be during day time so night vision is out of the question. Im still waiting to see if somebody knows if I will be able to see the IR beam, but once I know that im going make some IR goggles.

No offense, but this sounds like a comment you would overhear in a middle school lunch room. ::)
