So I had seen kipkay's video about the star trek phaser a longe time ago, and had wanted to do it for a while. Recently I came into a broken ps3 that wouldn't turn on, so I went and took out the diode from it on friday and then yesterday I tried to build a driver following this video I got everything hooked up like this but then When I hooked up my 4 AA batteries, (not pictured) nothing happened. I think it might be the diode, but I'm not sure. Because I dropped it a few times and heated it up quite a bit because I've never soldered before. I'm not too worried if the diode is fried, it was just a little project that I wanted to try before winter break was over. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks a lot :D

You NEED a module for the diode. Otherwise when you solder it or turn it on it will overheat :( Otherwise your circuit is a bit confusing, maybe you had the currant set too high but i can't tell just by looking at it. Do you have a digital multimeter?
