Was only a matter of time, really. Finally there is something to replace DPSS 457, which i am sure is what Nichia has been aiming for. Im guessing we will start seeing these diodes in higher powers, and not more new 445's

Also, would these be any good in DLP projectors? I know 445 [obviously] works, but would these be better?

Dont they use some sort of photoflorescent to acheive the green in those projectors? i would think the higher wavelength would allow for less fluorescing, but then again they have the 1W 520's for that now... hmmm

I am tempted to buy one right now. Agh. I bet an X-Drive would work splendidly on these guys. I wonder what amperage we could push them to and what corresponding wavelength we could get. A 1.8W 470nm Laser would be a FANTASTIC thing for this hobby. Love the light blues. Would be almost like having a multiwatt 473!

Nice. Been waiting for the 1.2W 472nm diodes but a 1.4W 462nm diode will do for sure. This diode has a low of 455nm and the NDB7875 has a high of 455nm.

Wonder if they are just a binned versions of the NDB7875. When binning the higher wavelengths are usually lower in output power and these are only rated 1.4W. Maybe binned from the manufacturer or by a third party seller from NDB7875 stock. :thinking:

Also not seeing any mention of it on the Nichia diode page but they have not added the 1W 520 yet either although on the 1W 520 from what I understand it is not actually in mass production the ones floating around were part of a small sample run.

was thinking the same thing as DTR as the first thing I did was check their site. I see they do have high power multi mode 405s

Nichia has all sorts of stuff on their, I asked about those 505's ... no reply of course.

If these turn out to be legit, I will definitely get one. Cheaper than my previous ~460 option, and these have a higher wavelength anyway.

This is the type of stuff I like to return to :)

I would assume they are legit, since they are being sold by techhood- i have never known what he sells so not be legit. I wish i knew how he got these diodes though...Maybe he works for some opto company that nichia will actually sell to :p

I don't think there is a question of weather they are legit. If you binned hundreds of NDB7875 diodes I am sure you would find a number of them that do 462nm which meets the requirements of the offering. The real question is are they a binned version of a diode we already know of or are they a whole new diode that nobody here has seen before.:)

I'm not debating binned vs non-binned.

I was wondering if these were legit 455-470, 462nm Nichia diodes.

Anyone can make a graph that looks like a Nichia graph.

I'll sleep on it, and decide tomorrow.

Could we just email techhood and ask them some carefully thought out questions to help ascertain the diode's origins?

This is great! I always wanted a lighter blue, but $100 for 5mw, nahhhhhhh.

This is awesome. We could prob get at least 2 watts out of it yeah?

Also, pushing it can cause slight wavelength shift like in other diodes right?

They are pretty cheap considering...
