I found this blog post about the history of laser and ray guns in science fiction writing and film (and how well - or not, they compare to the real thing), all the way from H.G. Wells to the present. There's also a cool vid of a US Navy laser (not sure if this has been posted elsewhere as I haven't been around here for a long while) torching the outboard motors on a small boat.

NICE!! Thanks for sharing :D

I thoroughly enjoyed reading through that. I happen to be in the works towards completing a pulse-laser gun, so that was more than appropriate

The ray guns with the 445's in them are pretty cool I'll have to try that some time.
Didn't Jay do that here a year ago ?

I believe you are correct, Jay did a star trek ray gun AFAIK but I'm not sure about any others. The 445s are sick to fire also... In my case, it's the 'rapid pulse' effect with a laser gun I'm going for.... haven't seen that one done just yet
