News scares me!

i was sitting at the station watching the news today and all of the sudden they start talking about "i think" it was 10 pilots were flashed with a green laser in a 20 minutes time period somewhere in washington state!

Dark_Horse.....can you go find the guy who is doing this and chop his balls off for me?

it's retarded....this means some retard just stood there for 20 minutes shining his laser at airplanes while they were flying over him...........

I saw that today too. We may lose our hobby and we aren't the ones doing this (I hope). I think all hits were on planes landing.

This is bad news indeed, very bad. I have my minions working to get close to the culprit It is the "Dark Horse-way"

It is too bad we cannot band-together as responsible laser-hobbiests to distance ourselves from these idiots and legitimize our awesome-hobby. This problem is going to get worse no matter what. I already have people asking me at work if I knew the jackass that was endangering all of those passengers at the Sea-Tac airport, like how the hell would I know him/her? Oh yeah, cause I am "into the lasers". How would anyone be able to tell us apart, except for these extreme actions that this individual has taken. Can we blame people for being scared and wanting to take action to limit this? I regularly fly into that airport, I do not want anyone shinning even a 5mW green at my pilot!

The way I see it, we either self-regulate, or someone will, no matter what country you are in. Otherwise, I have to think the politicians are going to have thier backs against the wall on this, even if they were motivated to resist further laser-restrictions, (which they almost universally are not, I would think). This will open and shut, what is our reponse?

It may likley be up to us right here, right now.....(pause for effect)....you, right NOW!  I am willing to help anyway we can......Any leaders here have any ideas, [highlight]I know you are out there?[/highlight] I have seen the members of LPF overcome every single barrier placed before us, with confidence, can we not overcome this one as well?? Rise-up my photon-emitting brothers and sisters! We are international, cross all age-boundries, and posses every discipline known and are generally some really smart SOB's! Can we not form an organization that promotes a positive-appreciation of lasers and science in general, the world soarly needs this right now, we can help. Otherwise, I am afraid, we will all be considered, another laser-whacko!

Just consider that in the '50s, automatic-knives were outlawed everywhere, (switch-blades), why, because there were a few jerks using then for intimidation and nobody to show a positive-value for the public having them, so the laws were passed easily. Now these laws are being removed, one by one, as they make no sense, but it takes forever, (50years or more). This not because a of real problem, but because of bad press. We have a real problem we need to ask ourselves, how can [highlight]WE[/highlight] help prevent these things from happening? We cannot blindly blame these ass-wipes as they will alway be there, screwing things up for everyone, how can we not be one of them?

Dark horse, why dont we start a group of responsible laser enthusiasts here and create a website to help legitamize ourselves. Then we write a letter to congress(or someone else) with all of our signatures attached saying we want to help hunt down these criminals without this hurting our hobby or "privately funded research".
