New laserlands 510nm pointer pen

Odd. It seems they may have started using a different diode. Either that or your "520" is closer to 505 and this new pen is close to 520. The power output is also very odd seeing how the review units were all close to 5mW with I believe one or two pushing 10mW.

This is not about the LaserLands 520nm 5 mW laser, but a different pen that is advertised as being 510nm.

That's what I'm thinking too. Last year I have bought two 450nm laser pens with the exactly the same typical laser host from techhood on ebay and they were advertised as 80mW and pretty bright, shame the seller doesn't sell 80mW ones anymore cause I gave both of them away. :cryyy:
EDIT: Nevermind I just checked and hes selling them again! Here is the link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/450nm-80mW-Blue-Ray-Portable-Laser-Module-Osram-Diode-In-Gift-Battery-Holder-Cap-/142142923236?hash=item211860e1e4

Woohoo! He used to auction them off and the first one I won at only $10! But $20 is fair too for a nice little 80mW 450nm.

I know that. I just find it odd that the ones sent as review lasers where pretty much as advertised as far as power output but lower than advertised on wavelength, while these new pens seem to be higher than advertised wavelength as well as higher power.

Yep pretty much.

I don't know if I mentioned it or not, but one nice thing about the 520 pointer in the larger housing is that it's threaded for the 3XBE.

Really for the price I say get them both.

I would stick with the 5mW 520nm---at least you would have a decent host remaining when it fails.

The diode is supposed to be an Osram and mine is a 3.8 with the flat sides,
it looks like this> https://www.ebay.com/itm/Osram-PL52...d=142658995132&_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Osram-PL51...899085?hash=item2132d76a8d:g:yrkAAOSwGYVXCk2r

Either way I don't think it's being overworked unless there's a 5 or 10mw 520nm in a 3.8 with flat sides.

Heres their 10mw and it's round, mine has the flat sides.

Here's the light reflecting off the input side of the lens and shining past the flat sides to be seen through my adjustment hole that's over the pot on the driver board.

Maybe I got an atypical one, but mine measures 510nm. These diode spec sheets put the minimum wavelength at 515nm. I can't say which diode it is, just what wavelength of light it produces.

I got my pointer from Laserlands today and it's a direct green, looks 515-520nm to my eye but could be 510nm, it is a direct and it works, it makes a fairly tight but somewhat oblong dot in the far field. Maybe it needs a small focus adjustment.

The 505nm will look quite blue next to it, if the diode is 505nm. My 510nm looks a bit like a 532nm next to my 502nm laser. And the 502nm looks blue next to the 510nm one.

I'm still waiting for my 505, another 520, and my 7475 from Techhood, they all shipped together and are due by the 20th, I will compare the color of the 505nm and yes I remember it's case positive " Thanks for the 411" , when I get it.

I'm sure it will look bluer than this pen, but the pen works and will be nice for late night pointing without drawing attention, I may even leave it as is and not turn it up any.

My AAA batteries went in positive towards the aperture, negative towards the pocket clip.

Was the battery polarity marked, or did you have to guess? I might decide to get one of these too. Also, did you measure the output power?

Polarity was shown on the sales page, but not included in the package.

Also a lot of artifact gets lost over distance and in daylight, these pics are at 25 feet, the 1st is the large body unit I pot modded ( my camera adjusted as it's brighter ) , the 2nd is the pen.

I am thinking of trying a 2 element lens if the threads are the same.

Oh, I know which is which. I was wondering if you metered the output of the pen. Is it a 5 mW or is it higher?

I don't have a LPM, I should get the bargain one that's 75/150 but I just haven't done it yet.
