Well lets put things in a different perspective for those that think that this is funny.....
My response to someone shining a laser at an aircraft should include 10 years in prison minimum sentence, and a fine that includes that persons entire net value. This money would go into a trust fund to pay for the damages done to aviation by irresponsible laser use.
Now lets explain why I would not hesitate to take the following action....
Land helicopter.... draw firearm.... shoot individual with laser..... kick individuals teeth in..... leave in helicopter.....
Now here are the reasons. Number one.... a flash of light at night from a laser can blind a pilot and cause him to lose control of the aircraft, killing himself and others.... therefor use of a laser on aircraft can be considered use of deadly force....... just like aiming your car at a pedestrian.... hilarious isnt it?
Secondly... and JUST AS DAMAGING... is the fact that these higher power lasers easily available can do SERIOUS damage to eyes of a pilot at low levels (helicopters fly 1000 feet and below), also refracting light through canopies and windscreens can increase the damage done..... Now.. ladies and gentleman... are ESSENTIAL to a pilot... so by damaging his eyes, even if not noticeable that night... can destroy his career... one that he invested 50000 to 120000 dollars into.... and honed his skills throughout years of hard work, study and experience....
That would be the same as shattering the hand of a carpenter..... or mutilating the fingers of a pianist....... or breaking the legs of an olympic runner....
So while some of you think this is funny... I can promise you I would kill you on the spot if I ever saw you point a laser at an aircraft....
Do you know how I found this site???? Because I am searching for an eye doctor, and the required FAA documentation following a laser strike on my aircraft tonight.....
If my aviation career is over... I can promise I will do everything I can to destroy the laser industry.....

Idiots... dont you have a fucking job or real life other than playing with little handheld lasers???? Seriously? I can think of no worthwhile reason to make them commercially available since OBVIOUSLY this thread shows people cant be trusted with them.....
Now I am buying these glasses tonight..... if the dark spot in my vision goes away and I am able to keep flying.. i will wear these glasses so that I can chase you down in the helicopter and make sure that either i find out who/where you are for a later visit.... or the police are able to make an arrest......

I hope your eyes are fine.But, to clear a few things up, I'm pretty damn sure that no one from LPF would do such a retarded thing. We are (I like to think) an extremely safe community and we pressure safety goggles and get angry at the slightest trace of laser misuse.
Im sure no one here thinks its funny to shine a laser at a plane. If there are a few trolls here then ignore them, they aren't the idiots shining lasers at planes.
By the way, I actually think its a good thing that laser bans are starting to take effect. That way, anyone who want's a laser will have to DIY, thus, making it harder for numbskulls to get their hands on a laser.
And I must ask, what colour was the laser that was pointed at you? Im guessing green since they are the most popular amongst retards who shine lasers at planes. And I can assure you this. I will also get violent if I see ANYONE shining lasers at planes.

but it has become clear that anything that is easy to access become spoiled by idiots.
I now advocate for gun control (I am a former US Marine.... I should be exempt from the laws since I have proven myself more than responsible with them)
I advocate for lasers commercially sold to be completely banned now.... unless you have a very specific and worthwhile reason for having them....
Maybe even the ability to upload to the internet should be limited too.... no more easy uploads or youtube.... FTP only, HTML coding to post... make people learn.. because and idiot with a google search finding awesome dumb pilot pictures just proves my point... people cant be trusted...
so make everything hard, (this is why pilots are held in higher regard, it takes a lot to get to where they are) so that the idiots are weeded out early...
Now that I get to spend my time filling out FAA paperwork...
It was in Florida, just south of Patrick Air Force Base, in Patrick AFB airspace... they take that seriously since that is within airspace that is integral to national security.

It is unfortunate that there are a ton of very cheap, relatively powerful lasers out there.
It's also quite unfortunate that there are a ton of morons out in the world right now. That's not going to change anytime soon.

Maybe if you spent 5 seconds looking around this site you would see that everyone here preaches nothing but laser safety and we hate people who illuminate aircraft because it destroys our hobby. You are simply taking out your anger on a forum of responsible laser hobbyists. If I got shot in the leg would I go and scream my head off and LOOK LIKE A COMPLETE FU*KING IDIOT on a firearms forum? YOU know what everyone thats part of this forum would like? For you to go and try and shut down WickedLasers. They are a bunch of scumbag liars that hire kids and are the source of lasers for assholes anonymous.
But, they are a china based company, so its going to be hard to get any law passed on to them.
They sell hundreds (maybe thousands) of lasers a week and im betting 30% of those lasers have caused eye damage/been misused. And yes, I would love to see all youtube channels that promote buying lasers from companies like WL closed. Ofcourse, there are a few laser hobbyists with youtube accounts here and I don't think they are doing much harm since they promote DIY.
Btw, aryntha (a member here on LPF) is one of the most serious laser collectors/enthusiasts here. He is also a pilot

Fu*k this guy. I lost all sympathy for him after this statement. LoL he clearly has no idea how expensive of a hobby lasers are otherwise he would know that we ( or most of us) have jobs.
EDIT-This guys posts are just so full of fail. It borders on insanity. I especially love his statement about how he is for gun control but because he is a former marine it shouldn't apply to him, because you know no former member of the military has ever shot anybody illegally.................tard.

That's really flying low.
For a permanent injury to occur at that distance you would have to have been hit by a relatively powerful laser which is not very likely.
The cheap pens being sold all over at boardwalks and such could be annoying as hell, but they certainly wouldn't cause injury at that distance.
In truth I wouldn't mind a background check and a three day waiting period on lasers at all lol.
