i was thinking of making this the next kit.....simply cause i thought it would be nice to have a laser that stood up on it's own.

tell me what you think. It would use a rkcstr micro-drive powered by 2x14500 batteries and would end up selling for around $45 shipped (which like my other kits would have EVERYTHING except the diode and aixiz module)

the thing on the side is the switch, haven't you ever played with those army flashlights? this is like a miniture version of the standard issue flashlights that they give soldiers (do they still use these things in the military today?)

i'm assuming it's not that big, since it takes 2xAA

oh and if anyone has a host they like, post it....
the host itself needs to be under $10 ea. and must accept like 2x AA,AAA,cr2,cr123 (basicly anything that can be made to power a rkcstr driver)

I'm gonna be blunt on this one. I've always hated that flashlight, the quality is really poor and I don't think any laser deserves getting in there :p
I'd rather have a nice straight flashlight host :)

thanks niko, exactly what i'm looking for.
If people hate the host i want to know, cause i don't want to spend $500 on parts and then have a box full of kits that people want nothing to do with.
I was also thinking of this one too....

there is also this one. This one stretches the limit a little at $15 each, so i wouldn't be able to offer the kit at $45, it would prob cost $60 each for these kits.

The last one is the best in my opinion.

One thing though, I never see you trying to make hosts smaller, where I think there's a huge market for you to take advantage.

I believe thats for the 2AA size. The 3AA host is longer, with a larger head. (more volume for drivers). If not that host, I'd also be interested in seeing the D cell size lites as a high power host. It would have uber-long battery life, plus more than enough heatsinking for an 8X or even c-mounts. My LOC might like a handheld that allows for a 5min duty cycle. But the D cell lite would be a bit pricey though...

the only way to get a REALLY small laser is you have the host built..and that would cost way too much....

if only i had a lathe....then i'd be pumping out kits that were only like 2 1/2 X 3/4 inches.

just enough room for the top half of an aixiz, a flex drive and 1 cr2 battery,

and use a tiny momentary switch that sits beside the flex drive.. (a clicky in back would make it too long)....

it would be awesome....and i don't really consider my "time" as part of the costs of making them since it's a hobby i enjoy doing...

stop getting me excited niko.....

Hahaha, sorry man, I thought you did have a lathe and that you made the hosts using it  :p

Well, guess we'll have to ask c0ld to send part of the donations to Mohrenberg to buy him a lathe so he can start building 10mm (wut) long lasers :D

no any machine work i have to go to a guy about 45 miles away......trust me if i had my own lathe everything i sold would be a lot cheaper....it's just one more thing i could take off the price of materials...
usually as a rule i just add the cost of parts and shipping and add $20, thats usually how i get my price for selling items.

How much does a regular lathe cost? Or a small CNC?
