Yesterday and today there were lots of news items in various lectures.

Three that may particularly appeal to some of the members on here.

1. X-Lasers new driver Up to 5 amps. Not for handhelds, 2v overhead needed. Should be out in next couple months. Perfect for labs and Projectors

2. Pangolin had a presentation where they discussed their new scanners - specifically the 506 scanners which are a much less expensive scanner that will outperform the DT-40/PT-40 crowd.

Cool news is that there is going to be a new piece of hardware coming out within 2 months or so that will have these embedded along with scanner amps and power supply, lasers and a DAC - all of which could be harvested from the device for much less than the individual pieces would cost separately. However Pangolin was not at liberty to say what the device was, only that it was coming soon and would be very reasonable.

It sounds like a c@sio projector type deal again.

3. The Lumia presentation was awesome this year.

The patterns were NOT typical Lumia and they were able to blend some of the color on the RGB projector with the lumia to get orange, violet, brown, etc.

This was done by putting a convex lens in front of the projector output to spread out the colors slightly, then a ball was placed in the resulting output.

One of the lumias had a clear glass ball in front that was producing some great effects. But some of the best were using the items below, especially the larger 1" versions.

Its very hard to describe, but the best Lumia I've seen.

specifically the 506 C scanners which are a much less expensive scanner that will outperform the DT-40/PT-40 crowd.

Cheaper and better? I'm impressed. When I heard Pangolin was making scanners I was expecting them to compete with the higher end CT scanners.

Any idea on the specs of this convex lens? The effect was a lumia display that looked to me that one was looking inside blood vessels with cells floating. Majorly different from anything I had ever seen.
I have ordered the Hydro Jelly Balls displayed...but there are a ton of inexpensive convex lenses out there...I was wondering if there is something specific to look for...or just experiment?

the convex lens is just to separate the colors a little. Probably have to experiment a little - whatever will do that

not just to separate the colors. also to expand the beams so beams had more surface area to mux.
