hi im here hear but ive had a fascination with lasers for years. im hoping that some one in here can steer me in the correct direction.

first off i am aware of the safety needed with lasers from my google research.

what im looking for is a nice laser pointer with burn capabilities. from my understanding the green laser is the strongest. id like it to also be a visible beam if possible. id like something that can be seen from great distances. lastly price, i dont want to spend a lot. id like to keep it to around $100 or less.

i should also mention that i like like the safety feature of the laser with the key to keep it from turning on.

please post some links or pictures of what you have for sale

thanks

brian

green is expensive for a good burner, its not per say the best burner but it has the a very good range for burning, I am not sure if a dpps green laser with a keys witch that is a good burner can be had for under 100 but someone else may know of something that would work for ya. LZCB - 532nm 150mW Focusable Green Laser Pointer is all I can come up with and it should burn. But no key switch. http://lazerer.com/Violet _Laser_Po... 405nm 500mW Violet Laser Pointer Water Proof is a better bruner for just a bit more but its blue ray so the beam is like a violet and is not near as visible as green but its out of stock. welcome btw

Hey Brian,
Welcome to the forum. First off you should have posted this in the welcome section but the general is also ok I guess. As for your burning laser the green is the brightest not necessarily the strongest. You will need good safety glasses whatever color you get if it's above 5mw. The Eagle Pair is the best. And for the most power for burning 445nm would be the strongest(someone correct me If I'm wrong) I'm pretty sure but your eye sees the 532nm wavelength 6x better then 445nm. And you could build a 1W+ 445nm for about 140$ or buy one for a little more. There are also some 100mw greens for about 50$ on lazerer.com
Hope I could help

thanks could you post a picture of your said laser that you could build?

also what can the 445nm burn through?

also are the glasses needed for glare or what are their specific purpose. i do not want my eyes damaged. could it be used "safely" without glasses?

I'm waiting on one more part to assemble this one that I'm talking about because I gave my other 1W 445nm to a friend but when I build my new one I'll post pictures

1W 445 can burn paper, matches, cut thin wood, engrave wood, pop balloons etc. they are very dangerous and you need good safety goggles. The Eagle pair at survival lasers are the best to use :)

Blu-ray 405nm is the strongest burner, but its beam is the least visible.
Blue 445nm is the most mW per $.
Green 532nm is the brightest, but least effective at burning.
Red 650nm is an all-rounder good burner, good visibility but great at neither.

That's true and also 650nm burns the farthest distance because of the dot type.

good info...

so i guess im going to narrow it down

i would like a laser that has good distance and has a visible beam

and can burn good distance from 1ft-30ft.

color id like to have either green or blue.

you speak of blu-ray what color is that? id assume its blue

so it sounds like im stuck between a blue beam or red for what im looking for...

now what laser should i like for on the LAZERER :: Trustable Asian Laser Source - Power Certificate for all Laser Pointer | Red Green Blue Laser Module| website?

thanks again for all your help guys

"you speak of blu-ray what color is that? id assume its blue"

It is violet kinda like a black light how it looks depends on you vision but it is not very bright looking to most. I would do a search they got plenty of builds and pics for 405nm lasers here. I think it burns better than red, but I have never tested how far it will go, high power builds use diodes from x12 burner sled like BDR-S06J 12x Blu-Ray burner lens(500+mW) [M0037] - $53.99 : Modwerx Shop

to be honest im good at building things but i believe id rather buy my first laser and then go from there.

so based off my last post what laser would you recommend and from what distributor would you use.

thanks

1W :tsk: Bad Idea..

200mW Green would be the one.. It is focusable, it will burn.. It is very bright!!
You would be more than happy to have this as your first laser..
Dont forget to add Safety Goggles

check out O-like.com, lazerer.com!! See what u can get in a $100.

EDIT:If you are planning to buy the safety goggles and wear them at all times and use the laser responsibly!!
i wouldnt hesistate to recommend a high power laser...
But unfortunately this isnt the case, Everybody wants a laser bright as lightsaber for least of the $$$.. and it IS possible but it is a hazard for everybody when the child inside wakes up with a High Powered Laser in the hand he would ultimately blind himself and the dogs , and the ants and anything that he doesnt like or does like but he wants to see what comes of it if he burns it..
