Hey folks,
as handheld lasers here in brazil cost a lot (even the cheap underspec penstyle ones) I decided to sell my old SDLaser 301 ( true 60mW Green + 20mW IR) from DX and managed to get $60.
I wanted to know what should I do with these $60. (Laser related /No jokes please :D )
I don't know if I take a chance with another cheap (maybe a little more expensive) green laser and see if I am lucky again.
I don't know if I should buy/build a 405nm laser although I don't really like violet.
445nm builds are more expensive than I can afford now.

Well, you got the idea. I need suggestions, opinions, pros and cons.
Presently I have NO lasersl but I have a nice P60 host.

Thank you for reading.

Att,

Gabriel Siqueira

I considered his tutorial and I must say I was temped. The problem was the heatsink:
If I'm not mistaken, he doesn't mention where did he get his heatsink.
Heatsink + shipping to brazil would add some cost too. I tried but I couldn't find anyone who did this kind of job arround here.
Of course, I'm here to listen to and consider all your suggestions.

Thank you for your answer.

the heatsink is included with the host, from moh, and I may be wrong but i think he has a sale on them $10, which is host and heatsink, and you could get it shipped real cheap probably like $5-10 bucks tops

Actually I DID read the whole post but I did it quickly and thought the host didn't have heatsink with it. (Now I clicked on the link and saw it)

If you don't like Blue or Violet, you might want to try something like this:
I bought two 120mW green modules off eBay from American_Lasers to use as spot pointers on a couple of telescopes. They were $38 USD each and worked great off two AAA batteries each, but were a little too much. So, I bought two more green modules, this time 30mW'ers from LaserLands. They work perfectly well for the intended purpose and were only about $15 each. Pick an option like that and,,
JayRob (I think is the guy), here on LPF, sells pen hosts for $11 USD, with a $3 USD switch option. You can make an impressive Greenie pen for much less than $60.

Good Luck, whatever your choice!

Thank you guys for the good info.
I still have one question:
Do you know anyone who could sell me the diode + module + simple custom heatsink + driver + lens so that I can save on shipping ? I'm trying to make this build possible with little money so I'd appreciate if you gave me this tip.

Edit: Oh, and I need it to be powered by one sigle 18650 battery.

I hate to be a pessimist but due to your location, i'm not really sure $60 will get you very far. Even DIY, i'm not sure you could get much below $100 after shipping for a 445nm or high power 405nm build.

Your best bet would probably be to see if you could find as many parts as you can.. host etc, locally first to save on shipping.

As I said, I already have the host. Lens, diode, aixz module and driver are all small so there shouldn't be much difference between the shipping price for one or all of them (and they are impossible to find locally. The main problem is the heatsink. It's also small but a little bit heavier. I also don't know anyone locally that does this kind of job with small parts.
