ok since im getting into this whole building lasers thing i will need to know what the heck all those numbers mean.

1 what does an amp do and what do i need to know about them
2 what does a volt do and what do i need to know about them
3 what is the current compared to volts, or whatever any of that is
4 what is a watt, in terms of current, or volts, what does it do.

thanks guys for your patience,i just want to be sure i know all that i need to know before i jump into this kind of stuff

amp is basically an informal way of saying ampere, it's the unit for current.

To build your own laser, you really need to know more than these. These are the basics and I suggest looking up a physics book in the library or if you don't feel like being such a nerd, you can look it up on the internet.

Physics? This guy doesn't know what a volt is and you're suggesting physics?

How about basic electronics.

LOL, yeah that would be much more reasonably. But I would recommend just search it on Wiki, Wiki may not be totally reliable, but for something like this, I think it's safe to go with.

The following link will get you started. Learn ohms law and you will be well on your way. When working with laser diodes we measure current since it is a current controlled device.
