I'm looking for a relatively low-power green laser that has an adjustable beam. I need to be able to adjust the beam from approx. 3mm-8mm at a distance of 6-9 inches. The color doesn't have to be green, however, I need the most visible color I can get and I've always heard green is it.

Any help would be appreciated.

you need the output beam at the lens to be adjustable in size or just the beam at 6-9 inches to be adjustable?

I need to able to focus the beam at 6-9 inches onto an object that will be 3-8mm. I need the beam to be the exact diameter of the object. The object is round. Does that make sense.

IOW, if the object that is 6-9 inches from the laser is 5mm, I need to be able to have the beam hitting the object to be 5mm also.

That will be possible with any aixiz module laser then as the lens is adjustable. You just turn it to adjust dot size on target.

Can you point me in the direction of some examples of those please?

Any laser that uses a standard aixiz module such as this:

https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf/home/diode-modules

You just turn the focus ring(small knurled silver part) to adjust focus of the beam to expand or contact dot size on target.

EDIT TO ADD: you can buy complete units from DTR site as well with diode pressed in with driver so you just need to supply voltage and a heatsink for the module.

Those are both great! Should I buy the focus adapter? What does it do exactly? I mean if the laser is already focusable then why do I need a focus adapter?

focus adaptor is part of the aixiz module.

Focus adapter is basically just a bigger "grip" for the lens, so you can easily twist it with your fingers without burning them.

Laser works the same with and without it, but if it's a very powerful laser, like 2 Watts or more (common in 445nm builds), you may want to get custom focus adapter so you don't accidentally burn your fingers while focusing the beam.

Trust me, it hurts :(

The two I listed already have focus adapters so you'd be all set with those.

Duty cycle is how long the laser can run before it gets too warm, and how long to leave it off to cool.

60 seconds on/off means turn it of after 1 min. and let cool at least 1 min.

Any way to get a laser like these that don't have a 60/60 duty cycle? I really need one that I can leave on longer.

Sorry for the dumb questions. I'm a laser noob.

You need a lower power one with a hefty heatsink and maybe even some sort of cooling apparatus like a TEC.
