Need explanation of the FlexDrive and what it can handle.

Okay...so I plan on doing a build with 1 14500 and an M140...BUT I've only used linear drivers...I don't understand how the flexdrive works...

So, how do I figure out what the max output current could be at whatever input voltage...say 4.2V....what happens when the battery (Vin) drops to 3.6 or below...

How does the flexdrive "know" what to set the voltage at...

I want this laser to be in the ballpark of 1.3W+ without losses from the lens.

Say the Vin is 3.6v and the current is set to 1300mA...will it work...will it put out 1300mA...what voltage will it put out with this diode?

From what I know the M140 needs 4.7ish volts at 1200mA to create ~1300mW

Can the flexdrive do that with 3.6v in?

Should I just go linear?

Sorry for all the questions...I need help understanding all this!

Ha. Ha. Ha. I'm asking for how the thing works...not how to set it...basically I don't get this part...

"75-400mA buck/boost 5V out
75-800mA buck/boost 3V out
75mA-1.5A 2.0V out with 4.2-3.0V in (li-ion)
A good rule of thumb is that: (Vout (Volts) * Iout (Amps) ) / Vin (Volts) < 1.2"

What would Vout be?

I wasnt trying to be funny, I figured linking the manual would help you answer your questions. I'm not sure what you don't understand though, those measurments you quoted are based on your Vin & the driver setting. The Vout is a variable depending on your numbers which you plug into that formula :)

Lol I know, it was funny. I am not a n00b! Well...kind of. But...if that were the case then at 3.6v the flexdrive would put out 3.3v at 1.3A...is that right?

((1.2*Vin)/Iout = Vout)

But also at 4.2V and 1.3A, Vout would be 3.8...Right?

But the 445 needs 4.5v...

Doesn't seem right...
