So, yesterday late at night I was pointing with my lasers outside my window like I frequently do. Now, there's this road near my house where many people come across on bicycles, especially when it's saturday late in the evening. I usually hear the occasional screams and wow's when I'm pointing, but yesterday I got the funniest reaction I've had so far. It was some girl riding her bike with some friends, and suddenly she screamed "I'm not sure what the hell that is, but I want it for my birthday!". I laughed my ass off at that one, especially because she had no clue what it that blue beam in the sky was.

This made me wonder what kind of reactions you guys usually get when people see you playing with your lasers. Ever experienced something funny like I did?

Probably "(various expletives) is that thing real?" Then the usual where do i buy one (to which i casually inserted my limited (though they wouldnt know) knowledge of building lasers) and then "how did you build it?" And i kind of stopped there because i figured they wouldnt really understand any of the words i said...

Also tell them the total cost of all the parts, then they will loose interest. My cheapest build was $140 just for parts and my best one was $277.60 for parts, then tell them they will also need batteries, a charger, and safety glasses. That will get them to forget about it, but if they are still interested then refer them to LPF.

I usually include the price, and say that the retarded looking shades on my head arent just a bad choice of style :)

Christmas time I took out a red and green laser 303 and started playing with diffraction gratings aiming them at the front of my house. I live on an island in the north atlantic ( Newfoundland) and there was 5 or six feet of snow and I also live in a white house. Soon I had cars stopping and people coming over to see what was going on. The next thing I knew a Christmas party broke out with spirts and people singing. I started thinking cheap 18650 batteries, don't fail me now! Anyway, a good time for sure!

Best reaction was just after a fireworks show. (already cleared it with the sponsor and police that were there) Shined a 1100mW 532nm & 3200mW 445nm laser with different special effects lenses into the smoke/haze filled night time sky.
