I found a mystery diode inside of a anti-static bag still sealed. How do you tell what it is by just looking at it? It's got 3 round indentations on the brass ring around the can. It also has long leads about half a inch in lenght.

I believe i bought it from hightech dealz.

Can you post a picture? It's hard to identify a diode unless they have a code or some identifying mark on them mind you...

Long leads usually means new, not harvested from something.

Thanks ... Was hoping you could give us something with more detail - maybe a view of the back of it - that's usually where any identifying marks are found.

No numbers on the packet or anything?

From that picture/angle it could be just about any closed can 5.6mm diode. They all look the same pretty much ...

Perhaps you have an e-mail from High Tech Dealz detailing what was in the order? Assuming you bought it directly from them.

Looking at their site - the only diode they currently sell in that form factor is a 1W 445nm - Probably the original ca$io diode. That said, perhaps they sold other diodes at some point? No point in assuming it is that diode without many more facts ...

Does your diode have solder on the pins or anything?

No solder on the pins, no markings on the underside of the package or diode. I do know it has a case pin and +- leads. I will check my email history perhaps good call.

Thanks

Solved it! It's a Sony 405nm blue violet bluray laser diode sld3235FV T018 I also have a driver for it ha, cool! Now to find a host that will work with it.
