You dont need a big badass laser to have fun. Am I right? :D:D:D

There you go.....;)

And you can still keep up with the newest Laser

Dude, if you took ALL the $$$ that ALL the LPF Members have spent on failed projects, laser & laser accessories purchases, etc. & added them all together, the total would be enough to pay off the NATIONAL DEBT !!!
This is how we learn & learn to SUCCEED!!! As stated above, this is an expensive hobby & full of failure, but you just don't quit after a few failures. Where would we be if the EDISONS, WATTS, & hundreds of other inventors had your outlook ??? Back in the stone age is where. Buck up & try again with easier projects,(cheaper too). If ya need some red diodes, modules, hosts, etc, PM me your addy. If you'll pay S&h costs, I'll send you some basics to start over again. I can't solder anymore, so I'll help ya out with some of my spare parts. Also, READ, READ, & READ SOME MORE about mistakes you may have made so you don't make them again. (SAM'S FAQ ABOUT LASERS) our "BIBLE". will help you A LOT.
GOOD LUCK WHATEVER YOU DECIDE TO DO......

About 5 years ago I started building my own LED fixtures and burned up enough Crees to substitute them as poker chips at any Vegas Casino. Got expensive real fast, but I learned enough about thermal inrush potential and driver design that I can replicate pretty much any commercial fixture for a fraction the price. I can now build a 10k plus lumen LED fixture with a constant voltage driver, and laugh at current regulation.

I learn by blowing crap up. Can't make heads or tails otherwise.

I'm hardly a laser expert, but have been working with the out-put side for decades. Driving them is a bit groggy, but I'm not 100% convinced at what I read in these forum is correct. Case in point is the 445 blue I have running off a 700mA Chinese Mr-16 LED driver I get for $1.15, and in turn running off a AC/DC spare laptop brick. Been running for over 50 plus hours without a hickup or measurable loss in brightness. Been told by numerous people in this forum "you can't do that".

The battery powered 445 pointer I bought on recommendation from several people in this forum last year didn't last through a single battery charge. Diode is dead.

What the OP can take from this is take everything you read with skepticism and try to understand what you're doing first. These devices *we're not* intended to be run from low voltage chemical batteries and drivers. The projectors there were intended for do not run on chemical batteries and DIY driver and by and large don't suffer a fraction the failures I see in this forum.

Just killed a $75 638 myself. Feel the pain. Fortunately that has been my only loss. Best part is I can use the host for something else, as well as the lens and module, and heat sink and batteries.... So I lost 50% of my investment. But I learned... NEVER pinch your wires between the heat sink and host...

LOL. Guess that is what happens when you hurry. Had that laser about 2 weeks. Showing a buddy what goes into the build... and messed up while rushing the assembly. BAM! Major fail! :gun:

@ Daktah Pepah

If you come back please change your avatar. It bothers me, just kidding, but really, change it. Otherwise good luck in your other hobbies but I bet you'll be back.
