They quoted my conversation with my boss on FB.

"it operates in the 460nm range…crazy that these are available! I’m running it on a big lithium polymer battery pack that can dump over 250A at 7.4V. It’s great at lighting things on fire from a distance!!"

Speaking of, i dont know if it matters to you or not (maybe you like it? :P) but some chinese sellers on both aliexpress and ebay are using your picture (you're literally in it) for their product images, ill see if i can find some of them...

I always like seeing long distance photos. Not photos of it shining into the sky, but on distant objects such as water towers, mountains, road signs... It really helps to get a better comprehension of how truly bright such lasers are. If you have time take a few and post them.

I am away from this laser right now, but next time I have the chance I'll try to get some pictures. I doubt I'll be able to do it justice... it is like holding a bolt of lightning at night.

Take your time. I'll give you some examples of what would make for interesting photos and vids too. You'll need a friend to help.

I am literally foaming at the mouth to stack 2 of these for a 16 diode unit, I have many boxes of salvaged lenses of many a shape and sizes and I am curious how far you can reach out with this, I heard you say you have different lenses for near and far.

Some distance shots would be great when you get a chance, Thanks.
BTW I enjoy your videos, some of your commenters worry me but that's youtube, you do a good job of warning everyone, you can never say be careful enough and sunglasses are not safety glasses because so many people are truly clueless.

Maybe I'm confused (or hard to impress), but what I'm looking at is a a bunch of 5watt diodes 'duct tape' together.

In terms of burning stuff, in the second part of your video the 6watt pointer ignites things about as quickly as the 40watt unit. That's because the beams are so spread out they don't combust any faster. That's where your college engineering professor smacks you in the back of the head and says 'get it?'.

How about using optics and at least trying to collimate the 40 watt unit? That at least might be cool.

One example. There are many more such images on the interwebs.
crossing the channel

There was a site I had booked marked on my old pc which crashed. I tried looking for that site today, but could not find it so far. Anyway, what I liked about it was they not only had photos of the beam pointed slightly off center of their camera, they also had close up photos of the spot where the beam terminated. A friend was at that location taking those photos. The distance as I recall was 17000 feet. It was interesting to see how bright and large the spot size was at that distance. We always see lasers from the user point of view, it would be interesting to to do a comparison between your 40w and a typical 5mW green or blue laser if you've them. I do not remember the laser's power rating. A good tripod or telescope mount will make pointing steady.

That's really cool!! I need to find an elevated area to shoot some laser beams long distance with. This is hard to do in IL...

Also, on this laser shotgun, the beams do diverge fairly quickly so it would be interesting to see how fast 40W of blue light from this thing would become unnoticeable. Now I bet a 100mW greenie with a good beam expander could be seen a LONG way away!!

There was no duct tape used...just lots of electrical tape.

In terms of burning, yeah this setup could definitely be improved as this one was pretty makeshift. Replacing the "factory" ball lenses that came with the diode block as well as some knife edging could make this thing a wicked burner, but I'll save that for the next one. The real kicker on this thing is the beams though! Those 8 5W beams traveling next to each other is absolutely crazy!!!

Styro, can you post a beamshot? I'd really like to know how bad the divergence is.

Which block are you using, NUBM70E or NUBM44?
