Hi guys,
I am wondering if it is moral to use our laser tech against Mosquitoes resting on our house walls.
What do you say about that?

I believe all life is connected, that we are all part of the same thing expressing itself in many varied forms of life, but when it comes to Mosquitoes, I say zap them!

How many mW are needed for an instant?

I'd say it's moral. The little buggers spread disease.

And as for the amount of power, you'd probably need a q-switched or mode locked laser capable of spitting out 100+ mJ (not mW) per pulse.

I don't know what a q-switched is. I googled it and says tatoo remover...
Can you explain please?
Thanks

I have to agree with Alaskan on this, I don't like to kill anything, but they are a Heath hazard to humans and when they invade my space they are fair game.

I have tried using my laser when one gets inside but they are too fast when they see that light, I don't know if Greek Mosquitos are the same species or not, or how big they get. I recommend 1500mW, I once killed a fly with my 1500mW 445nm and it killed it instantly, I think with anything less powerful they may get away. You might even get wounded angry Mosquitos flying around trying to bite you.

I have spent hours chasing them arround. Worst experience is when they enter your ear when you are falling into sleep. The top of my room is white and I can see them easily while they are hanging. How far I can kill it with 1.5-3W? Shall I be pretty near?

Depends how well you can aim...

I'll stick to DEET and bug nets... :D

In Greece we have 2 types of mosguitoes. A common grey one, rather small and a newcomer, black with white stripes. The newcomer has a bigger mouth. Good news is that when they are already fed, the are 3 times slower.

If you have a 3W that is better, I have a laser that is about 3W and it can easily kill bugs at probably 6 to 10 feet, but it too easily burns stuff, even at 10 feet or more it can leave burn marks in a few seconds, I would even say it's a fire hazard if you get careless. With my 1.5W I need to be within 3 to 4 feet to kill any bugs. Another problem though with the 3W is the dot is too bright, but if you put on safety glasses you may not be able to see good enough for this purpose.

Thank you Alan,
I will ware a pair of red Eagles when messing with mosquitoes every time. A small burn mark on the wall is ok, they would leave their body and some blood spot anyway...I won't charge the laser on other surface than a wall.
When you say "any bugs", are cockroaches included?:eg:

I am not so sure about those, maybe if they are small but I doubt it, they say the cockroaches will survive a nuclear war. You may need something in the 5 to 7W range.

A can of spray disinfectant works like a charm, it's the shotgun effect.

I know what some of you are thinking...but if you light the stream and set your wife's curtains on fire you are never going to hear the end of it.

Vasilas oh boy do I remember getting totured by them when I was there as a kid. It was just as bad in Athens as in the villages in Sparta. My uncle didnt let me use the burning coil repellent as he was afraid of me starting a fire me being young at the time. I never even realized there were 2 types. By all means whatever advice you get here burn those suckers. They were so loud they sounded just like flys buzzing around you when trying to sleep at night, that il never forget.:scowl:

I used to know someone that would kill bugs that way, flamethrower them with a lighter and a spray can. I was always afraid to do that, I think the can could explode since it isn't made for use as a flamethrower.
