I just got my first laser. I chose a dx true 30. I am very happy with it & am surprised it is so nice considering the low price. I have read that it is hit or miss though. So now that I have the 30 of course I now want more power. I was looking at the nova x100. But I am also tempted by the dx200. I know that the nova is good quality but wondering if many people have had good exp with the dx200. I would like a lot of power but after 100mw the good ones get so expensive..

The dx 200 wont put out as much as they advertise, the x100 would probably be about the same output maybe only 20mw less.  But the x100 wont have any ir emissions and they have excelent customer service.

The X series from Nova are quality lasers. Its fact around here that they are. When you purchase one, you are basically promised to get that output measurment or HIGHER. In fact, most people receive items in which their averages are +10 mw's higher than the advertised value. Novas lasers also come with quality IR filters. They leak minimal IR which helps A LOT.

The DX lasers are chap for a reason. For one, if i remember correctly, the DX 200 laser isnt a "True" laser. The divergence probably sucks on it. Not to mention their IR filters are crap at best and leak a ton of possibly harmful infrared rays that can harm your vision. The DX lasers include the IR in their output.

In other words, they advertise their 200mW in green light and IR light. So basically, you may be getting 100 mW's of green light and 100mw's of IR light. You cant see IR, so you only get the visual effects of just the green light

Basically-that 200mW is probably dangerous. The output powers you will get will likely be close as Nova is usually over powered while DX is usually underpowered. In the long run your nova will likely last onger and be healthier to be around.

Which ever you chose, though. Remember that you get what you pay for. If it looks to good to be true (IE a 200mW laser that has good divergence, good beam diameter, a solid build and safety features like a quality IR filter) than it likely isnt all it is cracked up to be.

thanks for the replies. I know the dx200 is prolly too good to be true :'(. Does enyone own a ultralasers 125 ? There is not a big price jump from there 100 to the 125. The x125 is a bit more than I can spend at the moment. But with all the good reviews of the x100 (x105) maybe that is still the best bet .

also, if it helps, I've heard that most of the NOVAlasers (including the x series) and overpowered. My friend got an x-105 and it actually peaked at 114 I think!

so think about that when you make your decision. ;)

It's disappointing to say that only Novalasers and Pseudonomen137 sell in spec CNI black/gold lasers (same as x105 etc). I wish I could recommend another place for that type of laser, but there really aren't any other worth-while options.

Bummer for the laser hobby... :(

I dont know why people think the dx 200s are too good to be true, sure it emits alot of ir but it spreads out like a flaslight and quickly becomes not a problem, you would need to worry more about the green than the ir.  Sure there not the quality like a x series from nova but for the price it can be hard to complain and if you buy a relativly inexpensive ir filter you can take out all the ir and be left with 110mw or so of green.  Although shipping to china can be a pain.  Basicly its a gamble buying from dx, some work great and last for years other time they will break right out of the box.

(i just typed half of this with the  vrtual keyboard cause my normal eyoard jut broke)
