Mixing batteries - safe?

The pointer and batteries still live! But I think I will heed the warnings and remove the 1.5v lithium and just insert a spacer. BTW, if you live in the US be careful of where you buy batteries from, Shop on Spot shipped my 10440 charger with a EURO style plug!!! Fortunately the power cable from my laptop power supply worked just fine.
