I use fluorescent diffuser. It's about $4 for a 2'x4' sheet at your local hardware store. Cut to any size you want.

my lumia projector (the one in the pic i posted) has two wheels that counter rotate *very* slowy and slightly different speeds (~.2 and ~.3 rpm). the patterns repeat, but the interval between cycles is quite long.

One other thing to think about is are the smaller wheels turning at a 1:1 ratio with the main wheel? My thoughts are they will be going significantly faster and may not project the slow transition between the effects as well.

Having said that I am glad I subbed and will be watching this project closely, sounds like an awesome idea!

Swami,

This is one of the concepts I will be building my lumia project on. Where did you get those motors and how powerful are they? (they look huge!)

What RPM are the motors running at? I noticed the gearing to slow them down even further. Are the gears what provides the different turn rates or is that a function of the pots?

Good point about the turning ratio. I'll really have to slow it down.

they're hankscraft .5rpm motors

you can get them here: https://sdp-si.com/eStore/Catalog

motors->gear motors->D.C

they are slowed down by the pulley/belt system i designed and then by the little speed control circuits i built on the perf board.

Hey guys. Was wondering how close do I need to mount the units to get good effect?
Should I use mirrors to get them very close, or is mounting them side by side acceptable?
I wouldn't want it to look like two separate patterns of course. Would like the red and violet to mesh somewhat, and I'm sure the distortion in the discs will make the beam shift a fair amount, but I just wanted to see what is the distance between the beams in a typical lumia setup .

try to align the beams so the are all parallel to each other and almost touching.

you'll get better color blending and effects that way. you'll either have to knife edge the beams or use a set of dichros (the cheap ones out of casio projectors work very well).

I think I will end up knife edging. So I would mount the units parallel to the discs and knife edge them 90 degrees so they almost touch and pass through the discs. I would angle the mirrors instead of mounting the units on a wedge to raise the height of the effect area. Thanks a lot swamidog. Do you have any pictures of your unit with the lasers attached so I could see how they pass through the discs? If not is there a place where I could find some detailed pictures of lumia setups?

You know that's what the email from aixiz told me. Make it totally portable( heavy ) but portable. I have two adapters coming , but I may keep a wiring setup for the car battery handy and try it out. No harm in giving it a go. I just like the portability . would the staic from the grid be that much of an issue?

I would check with a voltmeter before making any connections. You never know. You won't
have to worry about flicker or anything like that. The drivers take care of that. They are buck
drivers right? Boost drivers and the cheap linear ones that fit in the AixiZ modules will burn up
on 12V. Also regs on the motors like in Javalin's setup will take care of that as well. If there
is still flicker/hum, just put a 1200μF capacitor across everything. Sometimes those cheap
Chinese wall warts have no filter capacitor.

How bout this guy's. Found some small reflectors.

And lighting, these are aixiz lab units designed for 12v . The drivers better not burn up!

You're quick, I was about to comment on your double post

Looks amazing! Did you already get your 12V modules?

If so, got any pics of your set up / videos of what you've set up so far?

No just the adapters. I just held up some potential discs I found. Little reflectors the beam passes through nicely.

I'm not that fast! Lol no pics of the setup yet. I want to get a hold of the lab units before I go arranging things.

That red is a 650 as well. So the aixiz 635 should look much more pleasing with it lighter shade of red.
