^ :D I guess I like to keep my viewers wondering! Although I'm actually going to be appearing in a lot of my future videos. I'm putting together a video team right now and I'm hoping to step up the quality of my production...the tile floor and words on the screen just isn't cutting it anymore. :)

Yea right, more like you are tired of burning your doors and walls... :D

But seriously, in all your videos, do you have a backstop, or is all that power just burning holes everywhere? I just imagine your house having a burn line about 3 inches off the floor, around the entire house hehehe

(also +1 for promoting laser safety!)

Congrats!
I can't help but laugh at the one table that appears to be an ironing board.
I use the top of the washer and dryer to do projects all the time lol
My wife of 24 years is great about it though as I think she is used to my using any available spece in my office/laundry room for stuff. I usually take care of the laundry so maybe that's why I get away with it;)

Will say that I've never really understood where the real legal boundaries are for the DIY person.

Hope it isn't an issue to post this but it was the first hit when I did a google search "DIY laser guy". I takes you right to the article at wired.

I usually used some sort of makeshift beam stop. That being said there are a lot of scorch marks on the walls :D

Congrats!

Everything I do is makeshift ha ha I wouldn't know what to do with dedicated space for lasers or the right tools!

As for the laws I am pretty familiar with them. To the best of my knowledge you can DIY a laser over 5mW, even handheld, completely legally. The handheld >5mW laser ban pertains to importing and selling.

Pretty sure that is the case ^

Awesome job! Great to promoting that safety. Why the heck would anybody offer to photoshop off the goggles? Damn that would be one TOUGH job.

And a 10 hour shoot? How many batteries did you go through-- :p

(Also, are you sure you didn't decide to host the GB so you could take tons of pics with that new setup? ;) )

They were going to take a picture of me without the goggles and then use that to put over the one of me wearing goggles I guess.

I definitely burned through a lot of batteries ha ha. I even built a 1W 445nm handheld on the spot for pictures.

The photo opportunity is definitely an incentive for the GB :D I doubt I'll ever have another chance to play with 10+ 80mW 589nm lasers at once so it is definitely worth all the work involved. Sadly I doubt my YouTube viewers would appreciate a video like that because they just like to see destruction...

Well looking at it from their standpoint, 10+ ~100mW 589's shining into one spot-- not a bad quantity of power my friend.

I think that would appeal to their taste while we keep ours, right? ;)

^Imagine more than 1W of yellow laser power pointed to skies:wave:. You'd be an owner of a multi-portable astronomy observatory.

The appearance on the WIRED magazine's page is a well deserved act of your laser presentation in a safe and educational manner:). Looking forward to your future laser videography!

Now you can understand why I am confused concerning legal matters. Is the answer what we think it is because no one has stated that we couldn't build them or because there's an actual written statement that says we can?

Oh and stop taking about 589nm:) Can't spend the money on one anytime in the near future:(
At some point I have to pick up a HeNe also. I've never seen one and I want to understand why some are way into them. I don't think it will make sense to me without actually seeing one in person.
Now you can tell me to stop taking about HeNe's;)
