Hi all
Please guide me in buying a laser with following specs:
* distance approx 2km
* invisible
* very small spot at 2km
* less power hungry

Kindly help me!

Laser light will travel infinitely until it hits an object, but divergence is a major factor in how well narrow the laser light will be at far distances.

Why do you need an invisible laser to reach distances of 2KM? What are you attempting to do? :yh:

He wants to hit the death star above you:eek:
Not good :p

OP, it basically depends on what you mean by "invisible". My guess is you mean invisible to the human eye. I suppose infrared would work for this, however keep in mind inferred will still do damage to the human eye, be sure to use appropriate laser safety goggles/glass with also appropriate OD.

I don't know much about infrared, but I'm sure a beam expander would work to have a pinpoint focus... but you would need a pretty good expander to work and get rid of divergence for 2km.

I'm sure hitting the death star is an important priority for you, but what are you actually trying to do here? :crackup:

EDIT: Does win10 really not know the word 'infrared'? had it auto correct on me twice in this post lol

Are you looking to make an invisible trip line?
What's your purpose?

Thanks for the responses guys!
I am trying to make a outdoor rifle simulator,basically,a sniper. The required range is 2km.
Invisibility is mandatory because we don't want the learner to see where he is shooting.

???

Just tell him to keep his eyes closed or blindfold him

Hi Encap
Basically the firer should not get shooting clue or visible guidance to aim. So, we can't blindfold him. Laser shot is simulating the real shot. The problem is getting a laser for such range, and as somebody correctly mentioned, in IR spectrum.

Sound pretty useless to me as sniper anything

Shooting a laser beam at a the speed of light at a target 1-2km away is not at all like shooting a bullet --totally different.

You cant simulate bullet drop without a rangefinder too as drop is progressive.

The OP could calculate the time it takes for a bullet to travel the said distance, and set a delay for the laser after the "trigger" is pulled on the "sniper". This would give fairly accurate timing, but to implement physics into the simulation is beyond me.

Note if the delay was pre-set, the distance would have to stay constant to the delay. If the distance were to vary, the delay would have to be calculated every time, which is also beyond me.

Dear all
With due regards, please de-link the purpose from requirement. We just focus on laser the way it is required. Rest of the ballistics,delay etc, I can manage. Big issue is LASER.
Regards.
