LASORB usage (with 445nm)

I put together a quick post for ESD protection on a budget. Especially if you're talking about doing a bunch of LD's.

ESD must not be much of a problem here in the tropics. Never grounded myself before touching a diode, no ESD strap things, no lasorb, and I've never killed a diode from ESD.

ESD in a host, not really possible unless it's plastic like Steve said, and you somehow shoot it down to the driver without touching the host until you have done that. Otherwise it all just travels through the outer barrel.

Winter in the colder climates, ESD is horrible. It's not uncommon to have audible (and painful) arcs to door handles and other metal objects. Microfiber clothes and furniture turn into Van de Graaff generators.

They make anti-stat spray, but it only lasts for a short while.

Get's old pretty fast

Capacitors also mess up modulation in projectors... The lasorb only kicks in when a spike above the threshold appears. otherwise, they have no effect on modulation and performance.

The lasorb is wired in parallel with the LD, so "gounding" is not an issue and you *could* use them in portables, if they fit.
