I have been diagnosed with throat cancer.
If it wasn't for modern lasers treatment would be far more brutal involving nasty invasive and less successful surgery.
They will be using lasers during my radio therapy ...
so I have to say I have an extra special love for them :)
And a grateful respect for the people involved in the research and development of them ..
I for one would have never thought they would play such an important role in my life to the point of actually saving it .

:( I'm sorry to hear that but I wish you the best of luck with your treatments. Random cancer or do you smoke or dip?

yeah its just an unlucky card is all .
im young to get it but its caused by a virus that everyone's had at some time or another..
Yeah I used to smoke . but generally lived a healthy life .
just one of those things.. I'm in good spirits
It was surprising how much modern medicine is depending on lasers. it was in my right tonsil so the lasered them off but its more like chopping the head off of a dandelion weed the roots are still there so they need more stuff.
Its very accurate treatment and they have to line everything up to within millimetres. to prevent collateral damage to surrounding tissue.

Did a virus have anything to do with warning signs that brought you to have your throat looked at before this diagnosis? I'm so sorry to hear about your condition, but I am also glad to know about the 'latest and greatest' with advancements in technology that will lead to the least invasive procedure for this treatment and recovery.

Sounds like you caught this in an early enough stage, kudos to you for catching this early enough before it spreads to other parts of your body. I wish you good luck and a speedy recovery!

The statement of cancer was caused by a virus, was worthy of a google.

I edited this article to highlight the main points. You can google the subject if you want to learn more.

—What virus can cause oral cancer?

HPV, the human papillomavirus. It is a growing cause of certain types of oral cancer — those in the upper throat, at the base of the tongue and in the tonsils.

Studies suggest that HPV can be blamed for 60 to 80 percent of cancers of the upper throat.

About 2.5 million Americans are estimated to have oral HPV infections. But only about 14,000 cases of that type of cancer are expected this year, suggesting the risk of developing this cancer is low.

The virus is hard to avoid. As many as 75 percent of sexually active men and women will be infected with it at some point. Most people clear the infection on their own within two years. Some, however, have difficulty ridding themselves of HPV. And in some cases, the virus creeps down through tiny fissures in the base of the tongue or in the tonsils to lodge deep in the tissue.

Those deep-settling infections can become dangerous cancers that often aren't diagnosed until they're at a late stage, experts say.

—What are the symptoms for upper throat cancer?

Symptoms can include a sore throat that doesn't go away, pain or trouble swallowing, a lump in the back of the throat, ear pain and voice changes.

no no symptoms at all just a lymph gland that swelled .lucky my wife almost forced me to go to the doctors
no sore throat no anything ..I could have had the virus a years ago and its just laid about.
they cant mark the hpv virus for sure but its a likely guess..
Anyway its not always caused by sexual activity but that's a common way.
If youre ever unsure go and see a doctor ..but Zathras said .. its very rare but ..here in the U.K. all girls are going to be vaccinated.

There are many different versions of HPV, the shot only prevents it, and not all variations. 1 in 4 women have HPV. It is also the cause of genital warts. Men tend to spread the virus and never have a symptom...

My condolences, MT. I wish you a speedy and lasery recovery. I hope you're able to keep yourself busy with your own lasers.

Good luck, mate.
