Better stock up before they get classed as prohibited weapons :(

NSW Police Minister David Campbell vowed yesterday to change the law to classify powerful laser beams as illegal weapons.

"These gutless and cowardly attacks have to be stopped," he said. "I am preparing a proposal to cabinet to consider making these items a prohibited weapon."

Federal Home Affairs Minister Bob Debus said the Government would look at banning imports of laser lights, with exemptions for legitimate use.

Why does everyone have to go ruining it for us......

I say they just make the penalty like 10 years in prison, that will teach them to stop shining lasers at planes.

...lazer.... ;D ;D ;D

A coordinated attack on 6 airplanes in 1 night
This has got to be some kind of terrorist activity or a deranged group of idiots.
Why don't they just make some outrageous penalty for stuff like this? 20 years mandatory sentence should do the job.

Excellent point. Wtf will banning lasers in AU do to stop these idiots that already have lasers? The law enforcement is clearly too incompetent to catch them. They will be free to continue doing this for years and a ban on lasers will accomplish nothing.

I'm glad I live in the USA and there haven't been any major laser incidents in my state in years. This must suck for people in AU.

they need to stop saying these things are bad, catch the idiots and slap them with a nice punishment so people might think a little more seriously about doing it

Another example of the "At Risk Falacy" If one person in a population will mis-use something -- All of the population will do the same. We just had a guy kill his wife and 4 kids with 2 yes TWO baseball bats. Where is the outcry to ban baseball bats?

Hard to imagine the stupidest of idiots intentionally endangering hundreds of people in a coordinated attack. I think that there must be something more malicious behind these latest attacks. They aren't the typical 13 year old shining his new laser at the police helicopter type of incident.

Well people drink and drive every day... I haven't seen them ban cars or alcohol yet. Just because a few dumbasses did this doesn't mean they should ban them all together.
