Laser pointers above 5mw are already illegal in most countries (some above 1mw).  So what exactly are they going to do?

Jase

Not exactly. In the US at least, >5mW lasers are legal if they have a five point safety system with a key lock, closable aperture, safety interlock, led indicator, and 3 second delay.

We can have guns but not lasers. Something isn't right. Amend the Constitution so we have the right to bear lasers. Guns don't have a 3 second delay.

Guns have lobbies. Lasers don't.  :-/ Try n ban guns there'll be an uprising.

Hey that is a brilliant idea!!!!! We can start our own lobby! Lasers by far are considered less dangerous then guns, we can piggy back on the NRA and other second amendment groups. We would be less confronted, granted we may have a harder time getting new members. Perhaps we should start with professional laser shows and the like.

The NRA would only be interested if they banned laser sight add-ons lol

If the U.S. calls lasers weapons then that would make them completely legal no exceptions. The right to bear arms cannot excuse lasers if they are considered weapons. lol ;D

Actually it could excuse lasers as not all weapons are legal.Like balisongs for example(in some states at least).I really don't see why a knife is banned while everybody can still carry handguns but there you go...some of your laws are ridiculous ::)

Btw, the right to bear arms is being misunderstood, it means that you have the right to hang a pair of bear arms on your wall ;D ;D ;D

Balisong knives aren't more dangerous than a normal knife.

It's just the tricks they do with it intimidates and scares the shit out of people lol.

But yeah, lasers in relation to the US, aren't going to get banned any time soon.

Probably after they ban guns, which is when hell freezes over.

Butterfly knives are another hobby of mine ;DAnyone who would start spinning those in a real fight is a real idiot. ::)They're not more dangerous but they're more illegal, lol. :D Which doesn't make sense. So who knows , with the way banning works around in some states, maybe some idiot is gonna make lasers illegal after some incident so he can feel powerful and loved by the IQ70 group. :-/

This is the "Land of the Free" (USA). If the government makes money off of the market for lasers, they will not ban them. If the government makes more money off of fines they issue while catching several irresponsible users, they will ban them. What ever is more economically beneficial is what will supersede. They use the media to persuade the people into what to believe to achieve a certain goal, since this is a democracy. ;D

Well it never did say that they WILL become illigal, it just said someone will make a proposal to make them illigal. plus, this is taking place in australia, not the US or Europe.

If they do become illigal, it may just be illigal depending on how you use it, i dont see it something to worry about right now.

Passing a law banning lasers will be pointless. They won't be sold in dollar stores anymore, but there is now way that they can keep out the higher powered greenies entirely. Hows this for a better law:

1: Greatly increase the fines and add possibly jail time for pointing >5mW lasers at vehicles or people

2: All laser device manufacturers are required to include a slip of paper with their product informing buyers of these fines or other punishments.

As far as I am aware nobody has ever died from a portable laser. But baseball bats are used to kill people all the time, and I don't see anyone trying out outlaw those!
and im with you man !!!!!
