Very cool... wonder if they hit a snag or something.... That was added January of 2007... I haven't heard a thing (although haven't been looking in high end places...) about laser tvs hitting the commercial market... or anything about them at all for that matter.

maybe someone in the FDA thought "that would be just too much laser radiation for someone to stare at for long periods of time" lol! ;D

anyways i hope something comes of them, im sure computer monitors and gaming would look awsome.

though im curious how it puts an image on the screen. do you think they raster the beam across the screen? or bight they unfocus the diode and send it through a small lcd?

Pretty cool stuff. Anybody know what kind of power these diodes will be?

Also, RGB?! That means we can be harvesting BLUE lasers! With the crystals and everything all there!

For a mere $7000.

And I doubt these would go very cheap on eBay.

Although we could (and probably will) see a price decrease in blue lasers due to the higher demand for them.

It said the price would be comparable to a flat screen tv. Another one said it would be 20-30% cheaper to make than plasma!

But I wonder how powerful the lasers would be! :D

Last time I checked, high quality 65"+ TV's can cost about $7000.

I'd guess about the equivalent of a 500mW to 1W "White Laser" (I don't know the exact amount of each wavelength).

The lasers in these things are, at least for now, really funky DPSS lasers. Look up Novalux, and check out their website. I believe I remember reading that the Novalux Necsel is the laser that the LaserVue TV is using. Later, when possible, you could probably expect to start seeing green, blue, and red diode lasers, probably in those familiar 5.6mm cans, incorporated into the TVs. But that's going to be a while, quite a long while in fact. Years before we start seeing that, but when we do, it will be awesome. Color range, brightness, energy efficiency all up, and cost down. Pretty cool stuff.
