Laser Pointer Marketplace

Hello fellow laser enthusiasts!

Although I'm new to Laser Pointer Forums, I've been playing around with lasers and laser pointers for many many years. I came up with an interesting laser related website idea last month and decided to give it a GO. Before digging deeper and spending more time on this, I thought it would be smart to ask what you guys think!

The basic idea is to put together a marketplace where users can buy and sell lasers in a Classifieds / Craigslist format. Users can upload reviews and put up group buys, coupon codes, and more. I'm also working on a blog section where I'm writing articles on laser related topics. So far, I'm writing about how lasers work starting from the fundamentals - the atom. I'm trying to balance this project with a full time job so I need to know if I'm headed in the right direction.

If possible, I welcome everyone on the forum to sign up and test out the website. Email me comments and suggestions! :beer:

i was actaully thinking of doing this, but not with a readymade script, but something build from scratch, and fully LPF oriented:

Hi Whitewhidow, interesting, it looks like we came up with the idea around the same time! I actually put up the website before you posted your idea on LPF. :angel:

Instead of charging a fee for putting up listings, everything is going to be free. I've set things up where members and non-members to the website can contact the ad poster directly via a simple online contact form.

I've put up a category for company reviews and product review.

I've put up a category for adding "deals & steals" such as coupon codes and group buys.

I just want people to join, have fun, which in the end will allow the website to grow.

Looks like there are two big companies that already have a solid foothold on things over there, which kind of overshadows the whole "craigslist-type" listing.

Now, I totally understand that individuals would also be selling their own WL and DL on your site, but it's pretty obvious right now that's not the case (probably because it's still new). All the current listings have stock photos with links to the companies' websites.

Hi Chostchrome, i see, I actually put those up as sample listings, just to get an idea of what the website will look like when its occupied. These listings will also be indexed on google and yahoo which will bring in some traffic. Once the websites get more listings, the new stuff will overshadow the old ones.

My idea for the website is for both companies and individuals alike to be able to buy, sell, or even trade.
