okay, i just got the red ring of death and i was wondering if should save the disc laser?

can you make a laser pointer out of it, llike an altoids laser pointer?

No. It is trash. The PHR was in the XBOX 360 HD DVD ADD-ON unit

sure it can create a pointer.....but it won't be much powerful than the crappy one you can buy for $2.50 at your local wal-mart...
modwerx.com offers some good diodes at decent prices.

If you are going to the trouble to make a laser out of it you might as well spend $10 and get a PHR diode.

Yep, you can create a pointer but like Mohnberg said it would not really be worth all that much effort as its just going to be a normal red pointer. BTW, there are a lot of tutorials on how to fix the red ring death.;)

yeah i know, but the towel trick wont work and i might actually try the I-hacks one where you take it apart...

You're out of warranty, they did extend it 3 years, for some reason my xbox has a 4 year warranty, check that.

And my friend fixes RROD's and mods his name is abolfazl. I don't know his prices but you can always ask.

WHAT?!? The towel trick will cause the problem to get worse because it holds in the heat. Probably still can be repaired though.

No the towel trick was used to "re-Flow" the solder on the GPU and it works. You can also take it apart and put new heat compound on the gpu ( the silver stuff thats between the Gpu and the GPU heat synce )

Literally just fixed an Xbox 360, Llamma's Xbox 360 3RLOD (three red light error) X-Clamp Fix
Follow the instructions! do everything they tell you!
You don't need there kit, just some parts and a little "know how"
I would also recommend extra cooling after the fix, I'm going to cut the top and put some 80mm PC fans in.
Enjoy! so stoked mine works again!!
Oh yeah, DON'T do the towel trick, you will not solve the problem permanently and its very risky

Problem with the towel trick is the whole box overheats, what you want is just the GPU to over heat, since that is the problem area. That is why I would not try it.

what model unit is it i may trade you a pre built 130 mw adjustable focus laser pen with charger for it as long as it hasn't been opened up
what exrtras come with it
