laser lighter - someone needs to bash this

What exactly is your problem? It's most probably a PHR with a 405nm glass lens in a lighter. Apart from the odd host, it's nothing that's in any way remarkable.

THIS is the problem

Extend the line of the laser beam. Where will it be shining? If you view the video it is even more apparent that the light will be all over the upper part of the face (including the eyes). Now add to this that many of the people "hacking" this will be high or drunk when they try to use it . . . . .

Do YOU often recommend to your friends that they intentionally shine >50mW of violet laser light at their face?!?

Stupid feck is more interested in making a buck than the safety of his customers.

Even if KipKay is a mindless slog, the people at Gizmodo should be smarter.

This kinda of thing is what gives this hobby a bad name...just because it can be done duh! doesn't mean you should do it.

This video should be renamed. It should be called "How to Blind Yourself in One Eye with a Bluray Laser Lighter".

I got to thinking about this even if you are real careful the opportunity for someone

to accidentally bump your arm exsist... also the white on the paper will reflect more light than one would think thus slowly over time blinding you.

I still remember the thread someone on u-tube posted lighting a bong w/405nm. I
at the time thought nothing of it , but now I realize that all those airplane pointing incidents were they caught the perps... well they found weed on them so I'm saying that after smoking dope it must put you in a disdained place were pointing at people or things such as airplane is somehow OK. just my 2 cents somewhere some how a laser lighter is practical even can save your life it is also not for immature individuals
like most lasers.

Um, what about the places someone might want to look "cool" using this, like a crowded nightclub or dance floor? :undecided: Some guy ends-up accidentally half-blinding 50 ppl at a rave, while he tries to drunkenly align his laser beam to the end of his cigarette??! :drunk:

Christ, it was bad enough when this clown was convincing ppl to burn-out their diodes - now he's getting them to fry their eyesight too??? :tsk: (And anyone else that is unfortunate enough to be standing to one side of them when they get a "nicotine fit"?) :yabbmad::yabbmad::yabbmad:

i actually think the design is quite clever, even thoguht it wasnt completly original, too bad he didnt consider safety.
