Uhhh... A little too much too soon guys.

ttjarret: Could you tell us what your project actually is, so that our advice is grounded in something? And is it a solid circle, or a ring that you want? How perfectly circular does the circle have to be? And what's your budget?

First off, as far as I'm aware, you can get lasers into Australia, as long as they are not fully assembled handheld lasers. Might want to ask an actual Aussie about that, but I'm pretty sure that's how it is. Which means it shouldn't hinder you too much.

Secondly, green lasers appear brighter to our eyes than the other colours we have access to. This means it would take less power to acheive the desired effect and would probably be safer, but maybe you'd prefer red.
This: Circle lens kit for 12x30mm AixiZ modules, AixiZ as posted by Crazyk187 will work for producing the ring shape (as in the picture on the page) but will only screw onto an Aixiz module. It would be perfectly suited for use in combination with this: http://www.aixiz.com/store/product_info.php/cPath/59/products_id/310, although that is quite expensive and there are similar products available for much less. This: www.rayfoss.com has mixed reviews, but seemed pretty good when I got it, but that'll mean you shouldn't leave it on for too long at a time to prevent it overheating and would mean that you'd have to attach the diffraction grating manually, say, with some sort of adhesive. The benefit would be that it's green.

But, like I said, give us somet details on the project itsself and we'll be able to give more personalised advice - it might be a very common thing that you're trying with an easier solution.

EDIT: Maybe there's something I'm missing... qumefox, why wouldn't a 1m circle at a 1m distance be possible with the diffraction grating Crazyk187 posted?

WTF dude. heh.
Well it crossed my mind to point out that if you did a search for a green laser diode you would find exactly what you were looking for and to bring up the fact that I can buy organic salt at my local health food store. Then I thought about saying something of the difference between consumer terms and technical terms.

In the end I realized that I really didn't want to argue with bee about semantics since an argument between two people who are both right in different ways is so annying to read... so in the end I decided to give bee this one and just referenced a picture of a rat with a railgun.

Sorry it turned out so big, qume, I would shrink it if I knew the right tags.

Haha, ok. Using a diffraction grating or a motor and mirror? Because I think we should focus on figuring out what it is being built before we assume that one is preferred over the other.

Both. Either way I can supply him with what he needs.

Was going to offer some 10mw 635 diodes for use in this.

Ah, good thinking. I've actually never seen 635. How much were those diodes?

Something like $10 for them off eekbay. I bought them to play with so it didn't matter if I burned them out rather than my 20mW 9mm diodes.

low power (5-10mW) 635's are relatively cheap.. it's when you get 30mW and up that the price starts getting insane if you want good beam specs.

Ah, ok. I remember ModWerx used to stock 5mW 635nm diodes, but their shipping to the UK is unreasonable, so I never bought. Since this fellow doesn't look like he's returning, why don't we bounce this thread off topic by continuing to talk about 635s? :D

Was it ever figured out where the Rayfoss 635nm diodes were coming from? And where do the cheap low-power 635s come from?

Well the rayfoss high power 635's are new to my knowledge, not harvested. So I imagine they're coming from mitsubishi, or a mitsu dealer.
