Yea.. but all 3 of my computers have the same problem with movie maker... I think its a registry deletion from my regcleaner program... everything else runs perfect... including java stuff.

for those having problems with the java, try using a real IRC client: xchat (http://www.silverex.info/download/) for windows. install, and...
  • run the program, a network list will appear. enter your nick name (user name you want to use for chat), and maybe a second choice in case your main nick name is already taken.
  • click the "Add" button on the right of the list, type in ECnet and press return, this will create a new entry at the top of the list.
  • click "Edit..." (below add), then click "Edit" on the new window that appears and type irc.ecnet.org and press return. to make it easier for yourself, type #laserchat in "Channels to join:". you can also later come back here and enter your nickserv password, if you've registered your nick.
  • once that's all done, click "Close" at the bottom of the "Edit ECnet" window, your settings will be saved. from now on, all you have to do is click on ECnet in the list, click Connect at the bottom right, and you will automatically join #laserchat :)
hope this was clear and helpful...

You can always find me in the IRC too! I use Hydra IRC and would recommend it to anyone. See you there!

Nope, I just downloaded the latest Java and that didn't help at all. I get the same connection refused message when I try through MIRC. Am I doing something dumb, or is it possible I've been blocked or something?

From xchat:

"* Looking up irc.ecnet.org
* Connecting to irc.ecnet.org (209.9.228.99) port 6667...
* Connection failed. Error: Connection refused"

finally, thanks to becky the page has been modified so you can pick your name *before* you connect! :) the only minor issue is that some people's usernames may not work if they look too random, this is part of the chat network's protection against spam bots. the only user i know of to have been affected by this is Angdvl089 and that is a very random looking username! if you do get this problem, you can still use the command /nick newname (replacing newname with what you want to use) after connecting, or you can use another username. i should point out - i'm still having slight domain name issues that i'm trying to get fixed, www.laserchat.org does NOT work and goes to my host's website, laserchat.org without the www works fine. so just don't use a www if you use the webpage to connect :)

Nah, not a problem with Java. The server is just not allowing you to connect to it. Try some other servers on the same network, such as travisbsd.irc.ecnet.org or psuedo-servers.irc.ecnet.org, or use http://www.ecnet.org/chat/.

actually, the travisbsd server is only meant to be used by admins, but pseudo-servers is fine :) and the problem is fixed for pseudonomen now anyway :)
