You don't know laser pain until you have felt a blu-ray with a glass lens, I burned white paper with mine. It's broken already but w/e and the 90mw is an understatement because of the glass lens.

The most "creative" thing i burned with a laser ? ..... my fingertip, for an error of a friend, with a 10W 254nm mercury unit.

You had to hear me, just after i burned it, how much i becomed "creative" ..... was raining saints here and there for almost 5 minutes (LOL)

I have a greenie that was advertised as 50mW but i think it is much higher considering it fries matches at 10 feet.
I etched my name into the back of my phone,it looks sweet BTW, my keyboard,Burnt through a black magicians wax case,Melted the insolation on a black wire, engraved my slippers, put a book cover to embers, and gives a lot of pain to skin.

I call doo doo on that one! video or it never happend. and i know you know how to use youtube

IR, anyone?

I totally believe it.

IR fries things. Like eyes. I'd recommend an IR filter for that laser, because it's probably only like 50mW of green and 120mW of IR.

--

The most interesting things I have burned would probably be chocolate, part of a CD (I could only get 2/3 of the way through), and prunes (through the packages- the laser passed through the clear plastic, burned the plums, and filled it up with smoke!)

at 254nm it must burn like crazy!

You can bet it ..... there's a good thing in this, anyway ..... also after 20 years, each time i put my hands on a laser project, this little scorch on my finger remember me to always use prudence and work safe :p

nothing teach more effective than direct experience :D

Oh great, are you suggesting I try this so that I become more careful with my lasers?

:undecided:

LOL ! ..... not at all, sorry if i gave you that impression, it was not this my intention.

I just suggest to be safe and cautious before, for avoid to have "reminders" like mine  :D

From this past 4th of July... my friends and are broke open about 20 firecrackers and poured out the powder into a ceramic bowl... my 300mw LPCs dot ignited the powder in the bowl from 5 feet away! It makes a nice VERY bright flash! (then a nice puff of gray smoke for beam viewing)
