Maybe it's my elevated blood-alcohol level, or that it's 3:40 AM, but I must say -- as I solder away at yet another DDL circuit -- there's something meditative about building a laser. A couple hours of thought and concentration results in a beam of red light that can light a match at twenty feet; or project a dot literally miles away..That's pretty damn amazing. I find it extremely, almost ineffably satisfying that something so small and simple can have such a dramatic effect. I'm right though, ya? Anybody else get that rush from this? Or perhaps I'm just drunk :p...

In any case, I thank everybody here for helping me get into this incredible hobby.

Isn't it pretty risky soldering while drunk? ;)

But yeah, nothing can match that feeling you get when working on a project for some time and turning it on for the first time. :)

Yeah! And yes, it is risky soldering drunk! I gotta' say, though -- somehow I've managed to make the best looking joints I've ever made, tonight :-/ We'll see if it actually works. I'm putting together a 500 mA LPC all aluminum labby-type thing.

Seriosuly! They look good anyway..I have, at least, refrained from cutting a number of diodes out of their sled under these conditions....

Gee, I can't even make babies very well when drunk....

I find that same level of satisfaction building anything, creativity is addicting.

another very satisfying feeling, folding out that kickstart lever after a week long overhaul and listening to that freshly rebuilt bike growl to life. (However I do get yelled at for doing that in the house)

Flipping the switch on any electronic project soon after completion is a monumental moment.

and yes, seeing that thin beam of light shoot out right after the last component is installed is very rewarding.

Yes, it's a great feeling to have a build work, and work great.
The downside is when, after all that work, you get a $30 LED out of the deal.
Luckily it goes right, more often then wrong.:)

Yea there is nothing more satisfying than completing a laser build :) I enjoy putting together DDL circuits as well, and the best thing is they are so cheap!

It doesn't sound like you were drinking to me ;).

Seriously though I felt pretty good after my first build last week. Building is good fun.
