k, im planning to try my first build soon, so for equipment I have ordered:
battery tester, multimeter, vice, soldering iron (incl solder, holder, sponge, desoldering pump), pliers, heatsink compound. I have a basic optics kit coming with my arctic if it ever gets here lol. does that sound enough for everything? it'll probably all fall apart lol, cost around 40 pound altogether.

hmm i might need wires or something, to connect multimeter to stuff

Here's a tool that I don't remember seeing on this list (correct me if I'm wrong) but, if you are REALLY into DIY lasers, & like to assemble them from the ground up, this tool makes the removal of various lens assys. very simple & very easy. It's called a spanner wrench. Here's a copy/paste photo of one that's similar to the one I have.

All you have to do is adjust the spanner to fit in the two holes that are usually in the retaining ring for the lens assy. Then insert the two tapered "fingers" into the adjustment holes. Set up like this, you are then able to screw or un-screw the retaining ring, to set or remove the ring on the lens assy. nice & neat, with no threat of slippage, or possible lens damage from trying to use two jewelers srewdrivers, hold them both at the same time, & exert a torque motion to remove the ring. This tool will save the cosmetic appearance of your host, not damage the lens, & prevent your fingers from being punctured when one of the jewelers screwdrivers slips out of the hole it's in (which is what will invariably happen................Money well spent !!!!

Spanner wrench, eh?
I constantly find myself in need of that, though a pair of tweezers I have does the job so far.

The spanner wrench is so much easier to use 'cause; 1) It's adjustable for whatever gap there is between the 2 holes in the lens ring. 2) The 'fingers' fit into the holes deeply & snugly so they can't slip out. 3) The design of the wrench itself gives you something to get a good grip on so you can apply an amazing amount of torque. 4) Even cross-threaded rings, or rings that have been glued in place with cheap glue can be made to loosen up quite easily. 5) When you re-install the lens ring, you're able to snug it down securely so it won't come loose. 6) Scratched lenses are a thing of the past. The spanner won't slip & scratch your lens like tweezers might do. 7) The spanners 'fingers' come in different sizes, but I bought the 1/32nd size & that seems to be a good "all around" size for lens rings up to ~ 3 1/2 " diameter.................rob

Useful thread! Just ordered 200-count Pitch Black Latex Balloons and about to go search for flash paper/flash cotton (if they do sell that stuff online :p)

If c0ld and the mods move this thread to the stikies, I´m going to add a WTB information to all the items. I say this cause I don´t want to to this work and then seeing the thread on the back pages where nobody looks for (find) it ;)
