I was over at my parents house yesterday working on a large picture frame, phosphorescent, white board project for bluray pens. They have a heated garage and it's just to cold to paint outside right now. My mom was interested in seeing how it worked so when complete I pulled out a 405 pen and showed her. I think she enjoyed the effect. She went inside and grabbed one of my 3 year old nephew's toys and returned to the garage. It was a small, shotgun looking, toy gun and when she pulled the trigger it made some sounds and lit up here and there. I first I thought my mom was silly to think that the little red led in the barrel of the gun would have any effect from across the garage but then I noticed the dot on the white board!!!

Now I know it's just gonna be 1 or 2 mW of power but what kind of idiot puts a laser in a child's toy? Especially a toy gun??? It's just asking for people to get blasted in the eye.

I've seen such toys too. It's simply considered safe. I would not shine 1mW into my child eyes, that's for sure. Not that I did not shine it in mine though ..
