I was googling around trying to find more general information on c mount lasers and came across another laser forum. This was one of the typical threads:

i cand belive! i got a laser diode from a dvd burner,and i tried to power it with 9V ad two 1.5V batteries,but it getting very hot and doesnd gave a beam,only a small shining thing.it even doesnt light! what can i do? if eny one got an (for dummies-idia),please tell me

something about a dvd burner and either a dead diode or an IR diode.......

yah its cheesy but it works. I never claim to be able to code. I'm a copy + paste kinds guy.
