Talking Just bought my first laser.. Couple questions!! :D

Hey everyone!

I just purchased this laser for $14.05 after shipping & taxes.

How do I make it into a huge beam at night?

1) Does anyone know anything about this specific laser?
2) Will it produce a big "beam" like light saber?
3) What MW do you think it is?
4) What does it mean by adjustable focus?
5) I'm taking this to Bonnaroo to mess around with and shoot into the sky (not at people) think it will do its job?
6) Anyone know any DIY things to make it like a star cap so it dispurses the 1 beam into hundreds of little ones?

Thank you so much for your help everyone.. So excited to get my first laser!!

I have this laser.. it is focusable to a point does not get small enough to burn.. though if you take off the lens cap you might but i would advise against that. Wear safety goggles with this one output is more than 5mw closer to 30-80 mw depending on how over spec it is do not shine this in to the sky at night going to get you in trouble! Will not produce a big beam and you need a laser grading to split the beam like you want.. But Its not really strong enough to do much you need some thing over 200mw to do that.. Ebay pens are cheap and you get what you pay for.. If you want a nice laser that will do all the cool things such as burn, split, that kind of thing your going to pay 50-500$$ more towards the 100-500 range. ask the vets they will tell you what to buy if it was my and had the case there are several JRob build I want.. DTR has all the modules and parts for them try to keep money in house.. You get better deals in my opinion

I would see how water proof it is right off the bat. Maybe put it in the sink while lit and see how cool it looks under the water.

yes you need some thing in the neighborhood of 1-2w not mw and for that your going to pay big$$$$ for a decent on do not buy the china stuff because it will not last and may not be what the mw or w is said to be the diodes in the 1 w range are two hundred or more and build modules are two hundred or more just take care

To expand the beam you can usually just take the lens off. I believe that your laser is 5mw so would not be able to burn anything except maybe light a match. To see the solid beam you can fire it at night as green lasers are the best for the visual as they are at the top of the visible spectrum. Adjustable focus allows you to direct the diode's light. So focus it more and unfocus. Im not to sure on making a star cap but im sure there are many threads on that here. Hope this helps

Look up "Diffraction Gratings".

3. From what I read, usually btw. 20-70mW (including IR)
5. Yes, you should be able to see the beam in the night sky if it is 20-70mW

It's a Laser 301 a.k.a. SD-301. If the host has an "official" name I have no idea what it is. It is sometimes called "classic 301" as well.

Use this opportunity to check out the search bar at the bottom of the page. There are lots of threads about the 301 and 303, including a host breakdown and a modification to make the host compatible with AixiZ-type modules.

Inexpensive. "Junk" to some, but fun junk nonetheless. The greens are quite durable for the price. IMHO the best "first laser" because not much is lost if you get bored or break it, and also because it's a DPSS laser, which use an interesting way to generate the green light.

Try it at night and see.

mW, not MW It's enough to damage your eyes, or somebody else's. It's also enough to be a bad distraction if you point it at cars or into windows. Those are the first two things you need to know. If you can point this laser around in a controlled fashion, keep it out of people's eyes, and generally be responsible with it, then maybe lasers are for you. If you're the guy who dicks around at the beach aiming at swimmers, boats, and cops, maybe not.

ETA: Do note that these lasers produce a beam that is much narrower than most diode lasers. They might be "only" 30 to 50mW but the narrow beam means that the power density can be similar to diode lasers several times as powerful. Don't let the low mW fool you, you can hurt somebody and get yourself into real trouble if you misuse this.

Lots of fun to take to music festivals! When I go I take my Lazerer 532nm and 450nm and I've never had a problem with security or any of the bands; I just aim them upwards at an angle. People always ask about them, or try to buy them from me, especially the blue laser. You do have to watch for planes and let them get out of view before doing any of this though.

If the laser doesn't have a socket for it, then it's not feasible to add one to it. The 303 lasers do have a threaded socket for a diffraction grating.

i know someone with this, its an amazingly an powerful laser pointer that makes an amazing beam at night, its soooooo bright it touches the clouds, you can see the dot on them!, and the focusable lens makes the dot very tiny and it can burn, light, engrave and smoke any material, great buy. ALTHOUGH! he was lucky, some people get under powered ons and very very over powered ones, never point it in ur eye and avoid reflections, you will most likely get a good one.

1) I don't know anything about that specific laser
2) That depends on how powerful it is
3) It looks to be around 30 - 45mw
4) Adjustable focus means you can tighten or enlarge the beam and dot by rotating the adjuster
5) Idk but make sure there are no planes when you point it at the sky
6) No I don't sorry

several factors come into beam size including divergence, the size and type of laser, in this case a DPSS, optics and the finally the power.

You can have a multiwatt laser with a pinpoint beam or a low power laser with a bigger beam. the more focused it is, the more dangerous as mentioned.

Usually with small low-power handheld greens, this beam starts off around a millimeter or so, and the further away the bigger the beam gets. There are PURE optical ways to increase the size of the beam, but they are more specialized and usually pricey

REMEMBER - - - You need an 18650 to operate it , don't forget to buy one.
