Hi All ..
I'm a newbie - so pleeaassee humour me where needed.
I have a 1W RGB Animation ILDA laser.
I also have the iShow 2.3 software and interface & cables

Is it possible to replace the DAC converter/interface & cabling with just a single usb to 25 pin adapter/converter cable..? .. eg. the ones sold on eBay: USB TO 25 PIN FEMALE PARALLEL PRINTER ADAPTER CABLE PC | eBay

Could it work the same as with the DAC box ?

Well I suppose "Hello" is in order.

First as you are asking a projector question you are probably better off asking at PhotonLexicon as there are many more projector enthusiasts there.

Second, you should also spend a bit more time researching the hardware you are looking at. If you take out a bunch of electronics that obviously are there to perform some function (why would somebody go through the trouble and expense of designing it, making it, and all the subsequent trouble ensuring that it works ?) what makes you think that removing it all would be a good idea ?

You haven't done ANY homework on this subject and then you create an account, don't bother with the standard protocols of the forum, and post a question that could almost be deemed as insulting under the circumstances.
I think you should consider yourself lucky that I gave you this response with only a little chastizing included.

NO, it will not work. Just because the connector is the same it will not give the same signals... Printers communicate with the computer digitally (on and off) ILDA communicates with analog (0-5v and everything in between).. You need the DAC to convert what the computer has to say Digitally to Analog the projector understands...

I do recomend you do some reading though... The sound card DAC thread covers how ILDA works pretty well.

I asked this forum(a public one)a fair question in a polite manner.
I did this as part of my research.
If you don't have the knowledge or experience to give meaningful

Ouch !
In my haste to post from work my response was...simplified.
It was a question with, to me, a somewhat obvious answer. (As I did point out in the answer itself.)
I then encouraged you to do a bit more research to find out the answer for yourself, which would also lead you to learn much more while you were doing it.
There is no resistance to modifications/research. I have been asking some thought provoking questions myself here simply to stimulate other lines of thinking. Sometimes I get `flamed' for them and sometimes there are some meaningful discussions.
While it may have come across as somewhat arrogant I assure you my response was far from being thoughtless.

As far as being a fool...the corners of my bed do curl up and have bells on them...

Shorty was right. It would have been proper to introduce yourself. Would you just walk up to a stranger and pose your question without so much as a "hello", even though you thought that you were being polite? Also, he did give you some advice, albeit advice you did not like. And he did come across a little short but he did not sling insults the way that you have, another breach of etiquitte.

Holy crap you guys aren't adding anything useful here..

I don't generally think much of hello threads personally.. This isn't real life this is a _FORUM_ I think he basically introduced himself in his first post without making another useless post to say hi and that he's new...

This question is definitely in the wrong category but other than that I don't see anything wrong with it.. I think everyone over reacted (the OP and Shorty) and I am the only one who actually bothered addressing his question....

People don't post questions in forums to get yelled at about etiquette. I don't think he did anything too outlandish in his original post... He probably would have a hard time finding an answer to his question by searching because most people who have/use projectors understand how a DAC works. I didn't mind actually answering his question unlike the rest of you guys who feel the need to add your personal $0.02 about how everyone should behave on the internet.

Last thread jack... @guyfromhe. I am the only one who didn't add anything useful to the OP's question. Shorty did give some input. If someone doesn't want to get yelled at for their etiquette, they shouldn't call someone a "thoughtless arrogant fool", regardless if it is to their face or through a forum. What Shorty said didn't warrant that. Without that comment, I wouldn't have said anything. I suppose I should have minded my own business though as it didn't pertain to me. With that I'll apologize and drop it.

If I came on to a forum and posed an intelligent question and the response I got was (to paraphrase) "Your etiquette is bad and as for your question you should find the answer for yourself because your an idiot" I would probably be pissed off too and I don't think either of them was right for saying what they said IMHO.

Shorty's post does come off as arrogant for sure... I'm not yelling or criticizing anyone here I mean it's somewhat free speech here and everyone is entitled to an opinion and this is mine. As do you have every right to post and speak your minds...

I'm just posing an alternate point of view.

EDIT: Also "Do you have the time?" Yes, on occasion I do walk up to a stranger and ask them a question without introducing myself. Also in case everyone missed it he did say "Hi"

Um. I addressed that in the next posting. The point was valid and I explained that it was not my intention. I was under a limited time frame and shortened my response. Short of actually saying "I'm sorry" I did apologize.

Again, in the shortened form the posting may have been slightly terse, but I also did not call anyone an idiot. Not knowing something is not a problem to me. I like helping people find out what they want to know. Much like the addage "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him how to fish and feed him for life." I was attempting to get the OP to try out the various tools available to find out a bit more for himself.
When I first came here and asked a few questions prematurely I got a far less than friendly stream of comments to "encourage" me to do more research. It was with that in mind that I composed my response. (See also the "smiley" that followed the writing. Not a serious gesture.)

I guess our definitions of "freaking out" are very different. I just included a couple of indications that the usual protocols for this forum weren't followed. If the OP wanted to add anything or make other postings was completely up to him. I really don't care if he does or not but I thought I might advise him in a friendly way that he missed it. So the brief nature may have caused this also to be construed as less than intended. I already apologized.

They know it is called a "DAC". So why not do a search for "DAC" ? You don't need to be a member to search the database.
It should have been easier than creating an account, skipping the recommended directions and conditions of having the account, and then posting a question that contains part of the answer in it.
That indicates a certain level of laziness. While I admire those who desire to know I admit that I don't tolerate a certain type of laziness that comes from just not bothering to try. The original posting seems to have that indicated, at least to me.

So "Guy", that's my take on it. Not flaming you. Just trying to explain my side of it.
But I wouldn't mind a good argument about something...got anything we could use ?

Hey no worries, if everyone had the same opinion on things than this would be a very boring world. I think going any further on this would be beating a dead horse but it's always good to hear it from all sides.

Sadly I have been thinking of something to argue about and could not come up with anything that wasn't stupid, so I guess I'll drop it
