I don't know if what their doing is a good idea but it's already got the wheels moving.
Their giving away a Arctic for the winner of any laser instructable.
Wicked Lasers Contest
They do talk about safety so I guess that's at least a step in the right direction, hopefully the next step isn't 10,000 12-30 year old kids screwing up their lives.

At least they have to use lasers with safety glasses in the project, and it has to be a good project to win of course, so the winner will likely have experience with lasers.
