Im a loser baby

So why don't you kill me....

So apparently watching cartoons and "playing" with lasers makes me a loser. Being interested in advanced technology and refusing to submit to the misery of growing older has somehow placed me in that category. I don't think its fair to judge anyone for anything, its no ones place. Being told to grow up every time I bust out my lasers is becoming extremely disheartening. I've been on my own since I was 16 (about 9 years now) and I've always had a roof over my head and ill almost never miss a day of work. Watching cartoons and tinkering with my "toys" has never come between my responsibility and me. My father in law is constantly telling me to quit "playing with your stupid little lights and grow up" I'm almost too ashamed to take them out anymore. I've always provided for myself and my woman and I know I'm not a loser, but I finally find a hobby that I love and all they do is embarass me. I just lost my best and only friend in the world, my little brother Joe. So I've been turning to lpf for conversation and fellowship. Which of course brings on more ridicule from the old man, and to a much lesser extent, my soon to be wife. She's always been supportive, just not very understanding. I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you Lpf for giving me a place to fit in. Thank you especially to Danefex and 9ring, you two are the closest ill get to having any real friends for a long time. Long live Lpf! Sorry if this comes across as butt-hurt its mostly a catharsis for myself. I love lasers and I love life and only my body ever gets older. :beer:

It hurts when we have a love for something, not understood or supported by those we care about. Let me offer this:

Just because someone says something, does not make it true.

YOU get to decide if you're being a grown-up or not. And YOU get to decide if you WANT to grow up.

Hey man, my ma does the same thing. Who cares what they think. The only person you matter to most, is yourself. No body else. Do what you enjoy and not what others expect. Obviously your Father in law has some unsolved issues and is taking it out on you. Id say just dont worry about it and when he says something to you again, just tell him he has no idea who you are and what you like to do and to stop judging you because you found your nitch. Tell him the judgment makes him seem shallow as feck and immature. Tell him his views are all fecked up and he best keep them to himself. Some people just dont understand. I hope everything starts traveling up hill for ya dmacrae, i know it will if you follow my advise

Hey thanks guys this is why Lpf is so great. I can't wait to be back home In Florida!!! I think Danefex is the only nice person I've met in Chicago... Jander dude when I'm back in the fort the beamage will commence :beer: I just can't wait to feel that excitement that id get before turning on my lasers. Instead of feeling ashamed which has been the case lately, Like my fascination with technology is unhealthy, even though its a large part of my job. Prick-in-law used to be "billy bad ass" jock star and I think he somewhat resents me. I'm stronger than him and I'm marrying his oldest daughter and what have you. He's got somewhat of an inferiority complex as well. I never took these matters to heart, if your a good person I don't care what makes you happy, as long as you're happy. Why go and belittle someone and stomp on their dreams. Dude was definitely a bully in school.

That you have hobbies completely outside the scope of your father in law's ability to appreciate is his problem. Not yours.

Unfortunately people often ridicule what they do not understand, usually out of fear and anxiety.

Don't let it get to you... ignore them, avoid them when possible, and if you must be with them, just remember that their opinion really does not matter.

Watching cartoons, having an interest in science, and lasers, if that's what you enjoy, keep at it, and DO what you enjoy.

Yea it just gets to me, I'm the oldest in my family and my youngest brother was picked on a lot for being a "nerd" and a "geek" I hate that kind of mindset and I've always taught him to stick up for himself. He's in the marines now. Anyhow I'm stuck with the guy for another month until I'm back in Florida. I've been in Chicago about a year now and my jobs taking me back home finally.

Sorry to hear you have do deal with a shitty person like that. I guess I'm really lucky because it seams like everyone around me loves my lasers, maybe they don't understand why but they still love them. And on top of that my father-in-law just got a special 445nm for Christmas because he likes them so much, he goes to work and brags about them and lines up people to buy them from me.

Yeah I didn't really get my first class IV laser until I moved to Chicago for what was supposed to be a 3 month endeavor. My bro would have loved it I couldn't wait to show them to him and hook him up with one for Christmas. He was way more mechanically inclined than me, cuz I taught him all I could and we were going to build our own lasers among other crazy things. My youngest brother only cares about being a mean green killing machine. So Lpf is the place for me until I can return to my own place in Florida.

Uhm, on the cartoons front... isn't that normal?... I just recently watched the whole wolverine & the xmen series

Certainly they are better than so many shows on... I mean enough freaking reality... I think we all get enough of reality in our real lives no? :tinfoil:

Or that scifi turned to Syfy, and really is no longer in the business of science fiction.

Or that the history channel is full of crap, as opposed to... well history. I used to watch it a lot years back, now it's just oh so much useless junk.

Btw, the Avengers, the latest version, was cancelled... one of the best animated series I've ever seen. Only reason is to capitalize on the movie success, and re-align continuity, and of course revise cast.

I feel you shane ^^^ and IE I agree I'm tired of seeing people bid on storage lockers and get ripped off at a pawn shop.
I'll be in a better state of mind once I'm back in familiar surroundings.
