I just thought this was interesting and kind of funny with all the
Spyder III Arctic stuff going around
The ILDA is offering a chance to win one for renewing or joining.

Rules for 2011 renewal drawing

Seems strange that they are offering a customs watch-list item as a prize:thinking:

By holding this drawing, ILDA is not taking a position on any other issues or concerns regarding the manufacturer or regarding Class 4 lasers in general. This is a simply a drawing for a particular laser, donated to us, which is legal to own and use in the U.S. and hopefully in the winner's jurisdiction.

I guess they are covering themselves somewhat here too...also says its legal to own and use...lol, just not to sell. Our laws just don't make much sense sometimes.

There has been a lot of questions, inside ILDA, on this event. This Kinda kills some of credibility of ILDA with regards to taking a stand with safety. The executive director has been questioned over this, but once they put the drawing up, its hard to take it down.

If it is any comfort, the decision has been made that since members are for the most part are laser professionals who, on the membership form, have agreed to comply with all local laws, and or a are very active hobbyists or students, the laser will be going to some one who understands class IV safety. I don't see much of a problem with it going to a varianced laserist, but the idea is rightfully questionable.
